Inhalt/ Summary

Nichts als Pferde im Kopf – das gilt für die zehnjährige Magda überhaupt nicht, sondern eher für ihren Vater Fredrik. Denn der ist vollkommen verrückt nach Pferden. So verrückt, dass er dabei übersieht, wie einsam Magda ist. Beim Bingospielen mit Oma lernt Magda die junge Frau Helena kennen, und die beiden werden Freundinnen. Helena beginnt, sich für Magdas Papa zu interessieren, doch der hat weiterhin nur seine Pferde im Kopf. Weil sein Stall vor dem finanziellen Ruin steht, muss Fredrik ein entscheidendes Rennen gewinnen. Gleichzeitig trainiert Magda für den Schulwettbewerb im 60-Meter-Spurt. Regisseur Kjell Sundvall hat seine Mischung aus Kinderfilm und romantischer Komödie erfolgreich als Unterhaltung für die ganze Familie angelegt. Dabei umschifft er mit überzeugenden Figuren und einer souveränen Inszenierung die Klischees beider Genres. Auffallend ist darüber hinaus die ausgezeichnete Kameraarbeit. Allein die Bilder in „Nichts als Pferde im Kopf“ sind den Kinobesuch wert.

Thinks of nothing but horses ... might not apply to 10-year-old Magda, but is certainly true of her father Fredrik. He’s crazy about the creatures. So much so, in fact, that he doesn’t even notice how lonely Magda is. At bingo with her granny, Magda meets Helena. The two become friends. Helena has an eye for Magda’s dad, but he thinks of nothing but horses. With his stables facing bankruptcy, Fredrik has to win a crucial race. At the same time, Magda is training for her school’s 60-metre sprint. Director Kjell Sundvall steers a fine course between child-friendly entertainment and adult-friendly rom-com that works as a delight for all the family. His convincing characters and superb directing manages to get the best of both genres. The exquisite camerawork alone is a reason not to miss “Horsing Around”.

Regisseur Kjell Sundvall, Jahrgang 1953, wuchs im schwedischen Älvsbyen auf. Er studierte Regie und drehte anschließend rund 20 Fernsehfilme, darunter die schwedische Kult-Komödie „Vi hade iallafall tur med vädret“ in Zusammenarbeit mit Kjell-Åke Andersson. Auf der Kinoleinwand hatte Kjell Sundvall bei Publikum und Kritik Erfolg mit dem Thriller „Die Jäger“, den die Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck 1996 zeigten. Seither war er mit sechs „Kommissar Beck“-Verfilmungen und fünf Spielfilmen außerordentlich produktiv. Darunter waren der Polit-Thriller „Der letzte Auftrag“ (NFL 1998), eine eigenwillige Aufarbeitung des Palme-Mordes, die Weihnachtskomödie „In Bed With Santa“ (1999) sowie der Kassenerfolg „Der Mann vom Grab nebenan“ (NFL 2002).

Director Kjell Sundvall, born in 1953, grew up in Älvsbyen, Sweden. He studied directing and went on to make some 20 TV films, including the cult Swedish comedy „Vi hade iallafall tur med vädret“ in collaboration with Kjell-Åke Andersson. Kjell Sundvall won box office success and critical acclaim with his thriller “The Hunters”, screened at the 1996 Nordic Film Days. Since then, his prolific output has included six episodes of the “Beck” series and five feature films, among them the political thriller “The Last Contract” (NFL 1998), which is an idiosyncratic take on the Olof Palme assassination, the Christmas comedy “In Bed With Santa” (1999) and the box office hit “The Guy from the Grave Next Door” (NFL 2002).
