Inhalt/ Summary

Einer der Höhepunkte des diesjährigen Spielfilmprogramms: „Revolution der Schweine“ erzählt vom Aufstand der Jugend in einem Sommerlager im Jahr 1986, als Estland den 46. Jahrestag des Anschlusses an die UdSSR feiert. Zu diesem Anlass veranstaltet die Partei ein Jugendcamp, Heranwachsende aus allen Landesteilen reisen an. Sie versprechen sich einen Sommer voll Freiheit, Liebe und Sex. Doch nichts da: Schnell bekommen die Jungen und Mädchen die Restriktionen der Lagerorganisatoren zu spüren. Wer eine kesse Lippe riskiert, eine von der Norm abweichende Frisur trägt oder zur falschen Musik tanzt, wird hart bestraft. Doch in den Jugendlichen brodelt es, sie provozieren mit einer schweinischen Kunstaktion und wagen den Aufstand. Mittelpunkt dieses hervorragend choreografierten Ensemblefilms ist der 16-jährige Tanel. Die Regisseure illustrieren die Vorwegnahme des sowjetischen Zusammenbruchs und bringen gleichzeitig auf perfekt unterhaltende Weise den Alltag in einem Unrechtsregime nahe. Dass jugendliche Wut und Energie der Schlüssel für eine Revolution sind, vermitteln sie in atemberaubenden Breitwandbildern.

One of the cinematic highlights of the year, “Revolution of Pigs” tells of the 1986 uprising in a youth summer camp during Estonia’s celebration of the 46th anniversary of its annexation by the USSR. The Party has organised the youth camp on this occasion, attracting young people from all over the country. Their expectations of a summer of freedom, love and sex are bitterly disappointed, and the boys and girls soon feel the restrictions imposed by the organisers. An insolent remark, an unusual hairstyle or the wrong kind of music is enough to trigger a harsh punishment. But the youths will have none of it. A provocatively piggish art happening triggers a full-blown revolt. At the centre of this exquisitely choreographed film is 16-year-old Tanel. A brilliant illustration of the build-up to the end of the Soviet Union, it is both entertaining and informative in its portrayal of everyday life under an unjust regime. Breathtaking widescreen images convey the rage and energy of youth as the stuff of revolution.

Jaak Kilmi, geboren 1973, studierte Kamera und audiovisuelle Künste in Tallinn. Seit 1998 arbeitet er unermüdlich für Film und Fernsehen. So hat er über fünfzig Werbeclips gedreht und für seinen Kurzfilm „Külla tuli“ zahlreiche internationale Preise gewonnen. Auch als Drehbuchautor von Kurzfilmen und TV-Dokumentationen ist er aktiv. „Revolution der Schweine“ ist Kilmis Spielfilmdebüt.René Reinumägi, geboren 1974, arbeitete nach einer Schauspielausbildung als Journalist, Texter, Kreativdirektor einer Werbeagentur, Regisseur von Werbefilmen sowie als Schauspieler für Kino und Theater. Er gewann unter anderem den Hauptpreis „Golden Hammer“ auf dem Internationalen Werbefilmfestival in Lettland. „Revolution der Schweine“ ist sein erster Spielfilm.

Jaak Kilmi, born in 1973, studied camera and audiovisual art in Tallinn. Since 1998 he has worked extensively for film and television, creating more than fifty advertising clips and winning many international prizes for his short film “Külla tuli”. He is also a scriptwriter for short films and TV documentaries. “Revolution of Pigs” is Kilmi’s feature film debut.René Reinumägi, born in 1974, trained as an actor and has worked as a journalist, copywriter, creative director of an advertising agency, advertising film director and as a film and stage actor. His awards include the prestigious “Golden Hammer” at the International Advertising Film Festival in Latvia. “Revolution of Pigs” is his first feature film.
