Das ist schon etwas ungewöhnlich: Rapper, die ein HipHop-Konzert mit einer Schweigeminute beginnen. Die Respektsbezeugung der Band Advance Patrol gilt ihrem verstorbenen MC. Der 22-Jährige Chafic Mourtada wohnte in einer Hochhaussiedlung in der Nähe von Malmö. Eines Morgens hat er das Haus verlassen und sich vor einen fahrenden Zug gestürzt. Weder seine Freunde noch seine schwangere Witwe Carla, mit der er schon eine Tochter hatte, können diesen Freitod fassen. 18 Monate lang haben die Filmemacher die Trauerarbeit der Hinterbliebenen mit der Kamera festgehalten. Doch ist daraus kein trauriger Film entstanden. Er zeigt die HipHopper beim Proben und Kiffen, zeigt ihre Auseinandersetzungen mit den Eltern und ihren Versuch, im Popbusiness Fuß zu fassen, wie er auch Carlas Bemühen verfolgt, ihr eigenes Leben zu organisieren. Selbst wenn ihre Gedanken um Chafic kreisen – im Mittelpunkt dieses Mut machenden Films stehen die Lebenden. Nach 18 Monaten hat sich für sie vieles verändert. Denn wie heißt es in dem Lied, das sie ihrem toten Freund gewidmet haben? „Das Leben geht weiter.“

Rappers starting a HipHop concert with a minute of silence is hardly a commonplace occurrence. Advance Patrol do so in memory of their MC, 22-year-old Chafic Mourtada. Chafic lived in a highrise estate on the outskirts of Malmö. One morning he left the house and jumped in front of a train. Neither his friends nor his pregnant widow Carla, with whom he already had a daughter, could understand his suicide. The filmmakers have documented the mourning of Chafic's family and friends over a period of 18 months. But the result is not a depressing film. It shows the musicians rehearsing, spliffing, arguing with their parents, trying to get a foothold in the pop business. It shows Carla trying to get her own life together. Even when their thoughts are with Chafic, it is the living who are the focus of this courageous and optimistic film. A lot has changed for them in these 18 months. As it says in the song they have dedicated to their friend: “Life goes on”.

Erik Bäfving, geboren 1973, ist Regisseur und Kameramann; bekannt machte ihn der Kurzfilm „Boogie Woogie Daddy“, eine filmische Erinnerung an seinen verstorbenen Vater.Magnus Gertten, geboren 1953, arbeitete als Journalist für den Rundfunk und hat als Regisseur und Produzent zahlreiche Dokumentationen für das schwedische Fernsehen gedreht, darunter zwei Filme über den Fußballverein Malmö FF.

Erik Bäfving, born in 1973, is a director and cameraman best known for his short film “Boogie Woogie Daddy”, dedicated to his late father.Magnus Gertten, born 1953, worked as a radio journalist and has made many documentaries for Swedish television, including two films about the Malmö FF football team.
