Ein isländisches Abenteuer: Dreizehn Schauspieler – unter ihnen Kinostar Ingvar E. Sigurdsson – machen sich im Herbst 2003 nach London auf. Am Young Vic Theatre wollen sie eine exzentrische Version von Shakespeares „Romeo und Julia“ aufführen, die auf Island bereits ein großer Erfolg war. Nur zwei Wochen bleiben dem Ensemble, um sich auf die Premiere vorzubereiten – und vor allem, um sich an die Gepflogenheiten des britischen Theaters und den Londoner Lebensstil zu gewöhnen. In einem schäbigen Hotel findet die Truppe ein Obdach und beginnt mit den Vorbereitungen. Diese werden durch Rivalitäten in der Gruppe und drastische Szenen während der Proben erschwert. Und dann die Frage: Wie wird die akrobatisch groteske, Fellini-artige Version des Shakespeare-Stückes bei Publikum und Kritik ankommen? Eine schier unglaubliche Geschichte über Mut und Durchhaltevermögen: Die originelle Dokumentation zeichnet das bunte und lebendige Bild einer sympathischen Gemeinschaft und entlässt seine Zuschauer mit einem Lächeln auf den Lippen.

An Icelandic adventure: thirteen actors, including film star Ingvar E. Sigurdsson, set out for London in the autumn of 2003 to stage an eccentric version of Romeo and Julia, already a major success in Iceland, at the Old Vic. They have only two weeks to prepare – and to get used to life in London and the British theatre scene. They move into a shabby hotel and start work. But rivalry and tensions during rehearsals make things difficult. Not to mention the question of how critics and audiences will respond to their acrobatically grotesque, Fellini-esque version of Shakespeare. This highly original documentary is a remarkable tale of courage and tenacity. A bright and vibrant portrait of a truly likeable group that will leave a smile on your face.

Ragnar Bragason, geboren 1971, studierte an der New York Film Academy. Hat mehr als 80 Kurzfilme, Dokumentationen, Musikvideos und Werbeclips inszeniert. Sein Film „Wormstongue“ erhielt bei den Icelandic Film Awards die Auszeichnung für das beste TV-Drama, „Fostbrothers“ wurde zum besten TV-Film des Jahres gekürt. Bragasons Musikvideo zum Song „So Alone“ von Bang Gang wurde auf dem internationalen Festival „Cinéma du Fantastique“ ausgezeichnet. Sein Drehbuch für „The Whisperer“ wurde in Sundance für den International Filmmakers Award nominiert. Und für sein Spielfilmdebüt „Fiasko“ erhielt Bragason im Jahre 2000 einen Sonderpreis der Jury auf dem Internationalen Filmfestival in Kairo.

His film “Wormstongue” won the award for Best TV Drama at the Icelandic Film Awards. “Fostbrothers” was acclaimed Best TV Film of the Year. Bragason’s music video for Bang Gang’s “So Alone” won an award at the international Festival “Cinéma du Fantastique”. His screenplay for “The Whisperer” was nominated at Sundance for the Interational Filmmakers Award. His feature film debut “Fiasco” took a special jury prize at the International Film Festival in Cairo in 2000.
