„Reden ist Silber, Schreien ist Gold! Der seit 15 Jahren bestehende Männerchor „Mieskuoro Huutajat" aus Nord-Finnland hat Nationalhymnen, Schubert-Lieder und Kinderreime im Programm. Die werden jedoch nicht vorgesungen, sondern aus vollem Halse geschrien. Diese Dokumentation begleitet den Chor der schreienden Männer bei Proben auf der zugefrorenen Ostsee, einer Tournee nach Japan und einem Auftritt in Paris. Dabei vermittelt er nicht nur die außerordentliche Faszination, die die schreienden Männer auf ihr Publikum ausüben, sondern zeigt auch, wie ihre Auftritte Nationalismus und Faschismus parodieren - und damit immer wieder heftige Proteste hervorrufen. Nicht zuletzt beleuchtet der erste Kinofilm des renommierten Dokumentaristen Mika Ronkainen persönliche Hintergründe der Chormitglieder - angefangen bei Chorleiter Petri Sirviö, dem die Idee zu den schreienden Männern einst bei einem Kneipenbesuch einfiel. Nach „Cool and Crazy" ein neues beeindruckendes Chor-Porträt aus dem Norden."

To speak is silver, to scream is gold!" The Mieskuro Huutajat male choir from northern Finland has national anthems, Schubert lieder and nursery rhymes in its repertoire. But they don't sing them - they scream them at the tops of their voices. This documentary accompanies the choir of screaming men on their rehearsals on the frozen Baltic, on tour in Japan and at a recital in Paris. The film not only conveys the extraordinary fascination of the screaming men, but also shows how their performances parody nationalism and fascism - and repeatedly trigger vehement protests. Last, but not least, this first cinema film by renowned documentary film-maker Mika Ronkainen highlights the personal backgrounds of the choir members - starting with their conductor Petri Sirviö, who came up with the idea for a screaming male choir while sitting in a pub. In the tradition of "Cool and Crazy" this is another impressive choir portrait from the North."

Regisseur Mika Ronkainen, Jahrgang 1970, lebt im nordfinnischen Oulu. Seit 1997 macht er Dokumentarfilme. Außerdem arbeitet er als Journalist, Musiker und Event-Manager. Bei den Nordischen Filmtagen Lübeck 2001 liefen seine Dokumentarfilme "Vor der Flut - Das letzte Paar in Vuotos" und "Auto Bonus".

Director Mika Ronkainen, born in 1970, lives in Oulu in northern Finland. He has been making documentary films since 1997, but also works as a composer, musician and event manager. His films Before the Flood - The Last Couple in Vuotos" and "Car Bonus" were shown in Lübeck in 2001."
