Inhalt/ Summary

Was soll man tun, wenn man erst zehn Jahre alt ist und in allem noch recht klein – abgesehen von einer großen Klappe? Das soll Marcello, der Junge einer schwedisch-italienischen Familie aus der Vorstadt, erst noch lernen. Manchmal klaffen Wunsch und Realität weit auseinander. Wie soll man seine Träume von einer Karriere als Profifußballer verwirklichen, wenn man nur ein selbstgenähtes Trikot hat und ständig Fehlpässe produziert und das Tor verfehlt? Als Messdiener kann Marcello zwar direkt Rat bei Jesus einholen, aber in der Schule und auf dem Bolzplatz muss er allerhand Schläge und Niederlagen einstecken. Aber als es gerade ganz schlecht für Marcello auszusehen scheint, kommt die selbstbewusste Fatima in seine Klasse. Sie ist ebenso alt wie er, kommt aus dem Libanon und kann klasse Fußball spielen. Von ihr lernt er, an seine eigenen Träume zu glauben – auch wenn sie nicht den Erwartungen seiner Eltern entsprechen, und er deswegen von seinen Klassenkameraden gehänselt wird. Marcello und Fatima verbindet eine tiefe Freundschaft und alsbald auch Liebe. Ein neuer Kinderfilm von Ulf Malmros („Ein toller Sommer“, NFL 2000)

What can you do when you're just ten years old and still very small – well, except for your big mouth, that is? Marcello, a Swedish-Italian boy from the suburbs, is about to find out. Sometimes wishful thinking and reality are worlds apart. How can you make your dream of a professional football career come true when you only have a home-made football kit and you can't even score a goal? As an altarboy, Marcello can always turn to Jesus for advice, but at school and in the playground he has to put up with quite a lot of ribbing. Then, just as things are beginning to look really gloomy, Fatima arrives in his class. She is the same age as Marcello, comes from Lebanon, is self-assured and plays a mean game of football. She teaches him to believe in his dreams – even if they do not tally with those of his parents and even if it means being bullied by his classmates. Marcello and Fatima become best friends, and soon find love as well. A new children's film by Ulf Malmros (“A Summer Tale”, NFL 2000).

Ulf Malmros, geboren 1965, drehte seinen ersten Amateurfilm im Alter von 13 Jahren im heimatlichen Värmland. Mit 19 Jahren inszenierte er seinen ersten Film für das Schwedische Fernsehen. Seitdem war er Regisseur bei vielen Fernsehfilmen und TV-Serien und schrieb zahlreiche Drehbücher, vor allem auch zu Jugendfilmen. Er drehte Musikvideos und Werbefilme ebenso wie Dokumentar- und Kurzfilme. Als Spielfilmregisseur debütierte er 1992 mit „Ha ett underbar liv!“ („Have a Wonderful Life“). „Ein toller Sommer“ („Den bästa sommaren“, 2000) war sein zweiter Spielfilm. Er wurde beim Internationalen Kinder- und Jugendfilmfestival Frankfurt am Main mit dem CIFEJ-Preis und bei den 42. Nordischen Filmtagen Lübeck mit dem Kinderfilmpreis der Nordischen Filminstitute ausgezeichnet. „Marcello & Fatima“ („Bäst i Sverige“, 2002) ist sein dritter Spielfilm.

Director Ulf Malmros, born in 1965, made his first amateur film at the age of 13 at his home in Värmland. At 19 he made his first film for Swedish television. Since then he has directed numerous television films and TV series and has written many scripts, especially for a young audience. He has made music videos and advertising films as well as documentaries and short films. He made his feature film debut in 1992 with “Ha ett underbar liv!” (“Have a Wonderful Life!”). “A Summer Tale” (2000) was his second feature film. He received the CIFEJ Prize at the International Children's and Youth Film Festival in Frankfurt am Main, and the Children's Film Prize of the Nordic Film Institutes at the 42nd Nordic Film Days Lübeck. “Marcello & Fatima” (“Bäst i Sverige”, 2002) is his third feature film.
