Bei TATI bekommt man es für 300 Francs... Für die Extras muß man natürlich noch etwas drauflegen. Aber das Geschäft mit der Liebe boomt. Denn es ist billig bei TATI, dem größten Kaufhaus für Brautmoden in Paris, gelegen im multikulturellen Stadtteil Barbès am Fuße des Montmatre. Hier hängen sie in Plastikhüllen dicht an dicht, die Träume aus blütenweißem Chiffon, von Größe 34 bis 48 fein säuberlich sortiert, mit und ohne Bänder und Rüschen, Schleppe, Schleier oder Hut. Alles dient der Vorbereitung auf den „schönsten Tag im Leben“. Ein käufliches Glück. Was danach kommt, weiß keiner – nicht die Bräute und ihre Eltern, nicht die beratenden Freundinnen und auch nicht die Verkäuferinnen, für die das Geschäft mit weißen Träumen Alltag ist. Ein Tag bei TATI öffnet den Blick für unterschiedliche Lebensgeschichten, Schicksale, fokussiert im Kauf eines Brautkleids. Aber egal, ob zum ersten, zweiten oder dritten Mal: Immer ist die Ehe auch der Triumph der Hoffnung über die Erfahrung...

The business of love is booming, and at TATI, the biggest Parisian bridal store, set amid the buzz of ethnically mixed Barbès at the foot of Montmartre, it comes cheap. Those dreams in white chiffon are hanging there in plastic wraps in every size from 34 to 48, row upon orderly row, with or without ribbons and frills, trains, veils and hats. All in the service of "the most beautiful day in your life”. Happiness can be bought here. What happens afterwards is anybody’s guess. Neither the bride nor her parents can tell, any more than the bridesmaid or even the sales assistant who traffics in white dreams week in and week out. A day at TATI opens your eyes to individual lives and fates – all focused on the purchase of a wedding dress. No matter whether it is the first, second or even third time around – marriage is always the triumph of hope over experience.

Susan Gluth, geboren 1968, kommt aus Schenefeld / Kreis Pinneberg. Nach dem Abitur und einem längeren Italienaufenthalt machte sie diverse Praktika und Assistenzen in Redaktionen, Photostudios und Produktionsfirmen, bis sie 1995 ihr Studium der Dokumentarfilmregie und Fernsehpublizistik an der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film in München aufnahm.

Susan Gluth, born in 1968, comes from Schenefeld near Pinneberg. After leaving school, she spent some time in Italy and then worked in a number of editorial offices, photo studios and production companies before studying documentary film direction and television journalism at the School of Television and Film in Munich.
