Der Film erzählt die Geschichte des Grönlandfahrers Eigil Knuth (1903–1996) von seiner frühesten Kindheit bis zur Gründung der Station am Kap Moltke im Eastern Pearyland im Jahr 1972. Auf den Spuren seiner Expedition von 1932 geht es zu den Ruinen der Nordmänner im westlichen Grönland, über das Inlandeis 1932 und als Leiter der Gamma-Expedition 1938/39. Schließlich wird die große Pearyland-Expedition der Jahre 1947 bis 1950 dokumentiert. Aber der Film widmet sich auch dem Bildhauer und Künstler Eigil Knuth.

The film tells the story of Arctic explorer Eigil Knuth (1903–1996) from his early childhood to his Pearyland expedition of 1972, retracing his 1932 expedition to western Greenland, where he discovered the remains of an early settlement, and across the icy inland wastes, before heading the Gamma Expedition in 1938/39. Finally, the great Pearyland Expedition of 1947 to 1950 is documented. The film also looks at Eigil Knuth’s work as a sculptor and artist.

Regisseur Claus Heinberg, Jahrgang 1945, ist Geologe und unterrichtet an der Universität Roskilde. Er unternahm zahlreiche Expeditionen nach Nordostgrönland und ins nördliche Grönland (Pearyland), wo er 1976 Eigil Knuth traf.

Director Claus Heinberg, born in 1945, is a geologist who teaches at the University of Roskilde. He has undertaken a number of expeditions to north-east Greenland and the Pearyland region of northern Greenland, where he met Eigil Knuth in 1976.
