Die jüdische Hutmacherin May Aubert wuchs in Kristiania, dem heutigen Oslo, als Tochter eines englischen Vaters und einer deutschen Mutter auf. Vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg war sie in Berlin eine gefragte Putzmacherin, die Hüte für Ufa-Stars wie Marlene Dietrich und Elisabeth Bergner fertigte. Später wurde sie zum Flüchtling, zur Kriegsheldin und Geldschmugglerin. Es gelang ihr auch, die Bank des Casinos von Yokohama zu sprengen. Heute, 87 Jahre alt, arbeitet sie immer noch – jeden Tag. Zu ihren Kundinnen gehört Norwegens Königin Sonja.

The Jewish hatmaker May Aubert grew up in Kristiania – today’s Oslo – as the daughter of an English father and a German mother. In Berlin before the Second World War, she was much in demand as a milliner, supplying hats for UFA stars such as Marlene Dietrich and Elisabeth Bergner. She also succeeded in breaking the bank at the casino of Yokohama. At the age of 87, she is still working today – every day. One of her customers is Queen Sonja of Norway.

Regisseur Elsa Kvamme ist in ihre norwegischen Heimat vor allem als Cabaret-Künstlerin und Songwriter bekannt. Nach Studienaufenthalten in Indien und Bali gründete sie ihre eigene Tanzkompanie. Für zwei Jahre studierte sie an der Tisch School of Arts in New York. Sie schrieb das Drehbuch zu „Maja Stoneface“.

In her home country, Norway, the director Elsa Kvamme is best known as a cabaret artist and songwriter. After spending time studying in India and Bali, she founded her own dance company. For two years, she also studied at the Tisch School of Arts in New York. Kvamme wrote the screenplay to “Maja Stoneface”.
