Inhalt/ Summary

Die Familie von Yuri Mihailovits Kalin gehört zum kleinen Volk der Selkupen in West-Sibirien. Von den 5000 Menschen leben die meisten mittlerweile in Dörfern. Nur die wenigsten ziehen noch als Nomaden durch die endlosen Wälder. Dort sei Wald noch Wald und keine Industrie, wie es Regisseur Markku Lehmuskallio beschreibt. Die Kalins leben als Nomaden in der Nähe des Flusses Raz. Sie ernähren sich von dem, was der ihnen heilige Wald und Fluss bieten. Sie sind eine Einheit mit der Natur.

The family of Yuri Mihailovits Kalin belong to the Selkupa people, a small group living in western Siberia. Of the 5000 people, most now live in villages. Only a few still live a nomadic life in the endless forests. Director Markku Lehmuskallio’s description shows his viewers that in this area, forest is still forest and not an industry. The Kalins live as nomads close to the river Raz. They take what they need to survive from the forest – which is sacred to them – and from the river, living in perfect union with nature.
