Inhalt/ Summary

Ein kurzer Dokumentarfilm im Geiste der Gebrüder Lumière: die geduldige Beobachtung eines alten Fahrstuhlführers, der in seinem klapperigen Gefährt kaum Passagiere befördert. Trotzdem scheint er in seinem stillen Winkel so etwas wie Lebensglück zu genießen.

This short documentary in the spirit of the Lumière brothers shows the patient observations of an elderly lift man who rarely sees any passengers but who seems to have found a quiet sense of contentment in his little corner of the world.

Regisseur Arunas Matelis wurde 1961 in Litauen geboren. Er besuchte dort zunächst die Musikhochschule. Seit mehr als zehn Jahren dreht er Filme nach den Geboten seines Manifests „Totaler Film oder Poetischer Dokumentarismus". Dabei gelingt es ihm, der Wirklichkeit filmische Gedichte abzuringen, die stets auch auf internationalen Festivals (Cannes, Rotterdam) Beachtung finden.

Director Arunas Matelis was born in 1961 in Lithuania, where he studied music. For more than ten years now, he has been making films according to his credo of “total film or poetic documentary”. His ability to distill poetry out of banal reality has brought him acclaim at international festivals (Cannes, Rotterdam).
