Inhalt/ Summary

Hannah ist eine frustrierte Hausfrau mittleren Alters. Sie führt eine langweilige Ehe in einem langweiligen dänischen Dorf. Dementsprechend uninspiriert singt sie auch im mittelmäßigen Kirchenchor. Hannah kann sich eigentlich für nichts so richtig begeistern – bis eines Tages Jackson in ihr Leben tritt. Der schwarze Prediger aus den USA macht mit seiner Gospeltruppe Station in der dänischen Provinzstadt – und übernimmt sogar vorübergehend die Leitung von Hannahs Chor. Schnell entdeckt er Hannahs schlummerndes Talent, und Hannah entdeckt die Liebe. Ab dann gerät in der dänischen Provinz so einiges durcheinander. Die in Dänemark äußerst populäre Komikerin Hella Joof liefert mit ihrem zweiten Spielfilm ein Feelgood-Movie der feinsten Sorte ab. Wie sie das verkrampfte ländliche Milieu mit der Ausgelassenheit und Leidenschaft des schwarzen Predigers konfrontiert, ist nicht nur ungeheuer komisch. Darüber hinaus geht es in „Oh Happy Day“ auch um Werte wie Vertrauen und Gemeinsamkeit. Und nicht zuletzt ermutigt Hannahs Geschichte dazu, die eigene Stimme zu erheben ... und das Leben auszukosten.

Hannah is a frustrated middle-aged housewife stuck in a boring marriage in a boring Danish village. She sings unenthusiastically in the mediocre church choir. There really isn’t very much Hannah can get enthusiastic about – until she meets Jackson, that is. The black preacher from the USA brings his gospel singers to the Danish provinces, and even gives Hannah’s choir a few lessons. He soon discovers Hannah’s hidden talent – and Hannah soon discovers love. Which, needless to say, in this sleepy little place, really puts the cat among the pigeons. Popular Danish comedienne Hella Joof, here with her second feature film, makes this a feel-good movie of the first order. Her set-to confronting tight-laced rural society with the passionate feelings of the laid-back American preacher is absolutely hilarious. But there is more to it than that: “Oh Happy Day” is also about such values as trust and solidarity. Last, but not least, Hannah’s story is a call to speak your mind – and live life to the full.

Hella Joof wurde 1961 in Dänemark geboren. 1990 beendete sie ihre Ausbildung an der Theaterschule in Odense, seither ist als Schauspielerin beim Film, im Fernsehen und beim Theater sowohl bei der Kritik wie beim Publikum äußerst beliebt. Populär wurde sie als Mitglied der Komikertruppe und Band „Det Brune Punktum“ (Der braune Punkt) sowie als Moderatorin der Kindersendung „Bullerfnis“. Ihr Spielfilmdebüt „Shake It All About“ – in dem der dänische Star Mads Mikkelsen die für ihn untypische Rolle eines Schwulen spielt – lockte jeden zehnten Dänen ins Kino. „Oh Happy Day" ist Hella Joofs zweiter Kinofilm.

Hella Joof was born 1961 in Denmark. She graduated in acting from Odense Drama School 1990. For over a decade she has been a prolific figure on stage, in film and on TV and has gained considerable popularity with critics and audiences alike. She gained fame as a member of the comedy troupe and band “Det Brune Punktum” (The Brown Dot) and has also co-hosted the children’s programme “Bullerfnis” with great success. “Shake It All About” (“En kort en lang”, 2001), her feature film debut, was a hit at the box office (seen by ten percent of the population) as well as a favourite with the critics. “Oh Happy Day” is Joof's second feature film.
