Helgoland 1807-1967" is a moving report of the historical development of a very special island 70km off the coast of Germany. Vintage pre-war footage, the sea voyage to the island, the lobster-catchers of Helgoland, the work of the internationally renowned biological and ornithological institutes, the lifeboat service, post-war reconstruction - these are all part of the fascinating history of the islanders, who have maintained their sense of identity as Helgoland passed from Danish to English and then to German rule."

Regisseurin Barbara Thiel wurde 1959 in Mühlacker geboren. Sie studierte nach Ausbildung zur Krankenschwester Philosophie, Politik und Geschichte in Köln. 1992 machte sie ihr Diplom für Freie Malerei, Schwerpunkt Film, an der Hochschule für Künste Bremen. 1992-1993 war sie Meisterschülerin bei Prof. Gerd Dahlmann. Seit 2000 Mitinhaberin einer Video- und Filmproduktionsfirma.

Director Barbara Thiel was born in Mühlacker in 1959. After training as a nurse, she studied Philosophy, Politics and History at Cologne. In 1992 she took a diploma in Fine Arts, majoring in Painting and Film, at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen. From 1992-1993 she was a master student of Prof. Gerd Dahlmann. Since 2000 she has been co-owner of a video and film production company.
