Die Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck sind ein herausragendes Beispiel dafür, dass Traditionen zukunftsfähig sein können. Das Festival verfolgt seit 1956 das Ziel, das filmische Schaffen der skandinavischen Länder einer breiten Öffentlichkeit bekannt zu machen.
Die Nordischen Filmtage sind erneut in den Mittelpunkt des Brancheninteresses gerückt, weil gerade die filmische Entwicklung rund um die Ostsee besondere Qualität hat und Filme aus Skandinavien, Regisseurinnen und Regisseure und Darstellerinnen und Darsteller einen hohen Stellenwert auf dem Weltmarkt erreicht haben. Das gilt in zunehmendem Maße auch für Filme aus den baltischen Staaten.
Und dahin sollte die Entwicklung der Filmtage hinführen: zum Treffpunkt von Filmschaffenden und Medien aus allen Ländern rund um die Ostsee, zum Forum für Gedankenaustausch aller Beteiligten und zum Eingangstor zur gesamteuropäischen Filmszene.
Diese Rolle Lübecks in Vergangenheit und Zukunft wird der zentrale Punkt unserer Bewerbung "Kulturhauptstadt 2010" sein. Innerhalb dieses Konzeptes wird den Nordischen Filmtagen eine wichtige Rolle zukommen.
Ich hoffe, dass dieser Weg alle bisherigen Partner, das Land Schleswig-Holstein, den Medienpartner NDR, die Botschaften und Filminstitute aller beteiligten Länder und alle Freunde und Förderer überzeugen wird. Besonders wünsche ich mir, dass neue Unternehmen und Einzelpersonen gewonnen werden können, mit in dieses Boot zu steigen, ein Schiff, das in eine erfolgreiche Zukunft der Medienlandschaft des nördlichen Europas segelt.

A Word of Welcome from the Senator for Culture
 
The Nordic Film Days Lübeck are an outstanding example of how forward-looking traditions can be. Since 1956 the festival has pursued its aim of bringing the films of Scandinavia to the attention of a wider audience.
The Nordic Film Days have once again become the focus of film industry interest because of the internationally recognised quality of cinematic developments in the countries around the Baltic and the esteem with which films from Scandinavia, and its directors and actors, are held throughout the world. This also applies, increasingly, to the films from the Baltic states.
And this is exactly what the Film Days intended to achieve: becoming a meeting place for the film industry and the media from all the Baltic countries, a forum of ideas for all involved, and a gateway to the European film scene.
This has been Lübeck's role, past and present, and will be the focus of our candidacy to become the European City of Culture 2010. Within this concept, the Nordic Film Days will play an important role.
I hope that this approach will be welcomed by all our partners, the Land of Schleswig-Holstein, our media partner NDR, the Embassies and Film Institutes of all the respective countries, as well as our friends and sponsors. In particular, I hope that new business enterprises and individuals will be prompted to come on board with us as we set a course for a successful future in the media landscape of northern Europe.
