Produzent tyrannisiert Filmemacher | Overcoming the Obstructions
Another highlight from Lars von Triers idea factory is called The Five Obstructions. In this case von Trier doesnt tyrannise his actors, but rather the famous documentarist Jørgen Leth (his New Scenes from America is also in the programme). Von Trier challenges him to remake his short film The Perfect Human (1967) in five different variations, whereby he imposes five difficult obstructions on Leths work. For example, in one film, no take can be longer than half a second, or he has to shoot another film in the most dreadful location in the world (they decide on the redlight district of Bombay). The ingenious director finds a solution to each of von Triers restrictions. What distinguishes the film in particular, however, are the talks between the two artists about the experiment they are undertaking. |
