Vom lauten Schrei zur letzten Stille: Dokumentarfilme | From Scream to Final Silence: Documentaries
Initial documentaries selected give an inkling of the breadth of topics that this years selection will offer. Mika Ronkainen we showed his documentaries Car Bonus and Before the Flood in 2001 is back in Lübeck with Huutajat / Screaming Men, a portrait of a northern Finnish male choir which shouts rather than sings its texts. The text sources range from the highly political to the absurd, but they always make their point and are often extremely funny. There is singing as well in the programme: Norwegian singer Kari Iveland first had to overcome severe anorexia before her career could get started. In Vektløs / Weightless documentarist Sigve Endresen well-known in Lübeck for his films Big Boys Dont Cry (NFL 1995) and Living Amongst Lions (NFL 1998) and as producer of last years NDR Prize winner Dragonflies portrays the singer when she was making her first solo album and conversing with her parents. Prizewinning Finnish director Kiti Loustarinen brought Gracious Curves in 1997 and The One and Only in 1999 to the Film Days and is back with Kuoleman kasvot / The Face of Death, in which her camera follows people dying of cancer in a hospital. She concludes: A dying person teaches humanity and humaneness, genuine pride, dignity and courage. |
