... hat sich im Norden Europas eine ganz eigenständige Kultur des Animationsfilms entwickelt, die sich durch große Vielfalt der Geschichten, Stile und Techniken auszeichnet. Dank öffentlicher Unterstützung können eine Vielzahl von Filmkünstlern, kleinere und größere Studios ihr kreatives Potential entfalten. Etwa 100 animierte Kurzfilme werden jährlich hergestellt, daneben immer wieder große, aufwendig animierte Spielfilme für ein junges Publikum. Sie sind witzig und unterhaltsam, vermitteln aber auch pädagogische Werte. Das Spektrum reicht von kleinen persönlichen Geschichten über politische, sexuelle und ökologische Aufklärungsfilme bis zur Verfilmung bekannter Volksmärchen oder beliebter Kinderbücher. Nordische Animationsfilme – von Ivo Caprinos Puppenanimation Hintertupfinger Grand Prix (1975) bis zu Vibeke Idsøes Zeichentrickversion von Karlsson vom Dach (2002) – verzeichnen die größten Kassenerfolge in ihren Heimatländern und die besten Exportchancen. Samson und Sally, Prop und Berta, Pettersson und Findus und alle anderen begeistern die Kinder auch hierzulande. Ein Grund für die Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck und das Kinder- und Jugendfilmzentrum in Deutschland 2003 eine kleine Auswahl nordischer Animations-filme zu präsentieren.

... has developed over the years in northern Europe, somewhere between Disney and Japanese anime. Thanks to state support, many animation artists can realise their creative potential in both big and small studios, producing a plethora of stories, styles and techniques. Some 100 short animation films are made each year, and no few major animated feature-length movies reach enthusiastic audiences of young viewers. Nordic animation is clever and entertaining, but doesn’t forget to communicate educational values as well. The topics range from intimate personal stories to political, ecological and sex education films, with a strong tra-dition of adaptations of fairytales and popular children’s books. Nordic animation films – from Ivo Caprino’s puppet animation Hintertupfinger Grand Prix (1975) to Vibecke Idsøe’s trick film version of Karlsson on the Roof (2002) – are huge box-office hits in their own countries and have very good chances of being expor-ted. Samson and Sally, Prop and Berta, Pettersson and Findus and all the others are just as popular in Germany as at home. A good reason for the Nordic Film Days Lübeck and the Children’s and Youth Film Centre in Germany to present a small selection of the best of Nordic animation at this year’s festival.
