Nachdem seine Nachbarin die Landwirtschaft aus Krankheitsgründen aufgeben musste, ist der alte Nonni auf Lokinhamrar der einzige Bauer in einem abgelegenen Tal im Nordwesten Islands. Der Film begleitet ihn durch das Jahr: Er zeigt die Heuernte im Frühsommer, den Weidenabtrieb im Herbst, die Einsamkeit im Winter, wenn der Hof durch den Schnee vom Rest der Welt abgeschnitten ist, und das Erwachen der Natur im Frühjahr. Am Ende hat Nonni einen folgenschweren Entschluss gefasst: Er wird seinen Hof aufgeben.Ein schöner und bewegender Film über ein Leben im Kampf, aber auch im Einklang mit der Natur. Zugleich eine melancholische Reflexion über das Ende der traditionellen Landwirtschaft.

Now that his neighbour has been forced to give up her farming on health grounds, old Nonni of Lokinhamrar is the only farmer left in a remote valley in the north west of Iceland. The film follows him through the year: it shows the hay harvest in early summer, the gathering in of livestock in autumn, the loneliness of winter when heavy snow cuts the farm off from the rest of the world, and the awakening of nature in spring. In the end, Nonni makes the difficult decision to give up his farm.A beautiful and moving film about a life struggling with nature and in harmony with nature. At the same time, it is a melancholy reflection on the end of traditional farming.

Regisseur Sigurdur Grimsson, Jahrgang 1951, studierte 1976 bis 1982 an der Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in München in der Abteilung Dokumentarfilm und Fernsehpublizistik. 1982 bis 1985 arbeitete er als Redakteur beim Isländischen Fernsehen RUV Sjónvarpinu. Seit 1985 ist freiberuflicher Filmemacher.Regisseurin Angelika Andrees, Jahrgang 1951, stammt aus Berlin. 1971 bis 1977 studierte sie an der Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen Babelsberg im Bereich Dokumentarfilm. Sie arbeitete bei der DEFA Spielfilm und der DEFA Dokumentarfilm, seit 1985 ist sie freiberuflich in Hamburg und Island tätig.

Director Sigurdur Grimsson, born in 1951, studied from 1976 to 1982 at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in Munich, in the department of documentary film and television journalism. From 1982 to 1985 he worked as an editor for the Icelandic television station RUV Sjónvarpinu. Freelance film-maker since 1985.Director Angelika Andrees, born 1951, comes from Berlin. From 1971 to 1977 she studied at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen Babelsberg in the department of documentary film. She has worked for DEFA Spielfilm and DEFA Dokumentarfilm. Since 1985 she has been freelancing in Hamburg and Iceland tätig.
