Inhalt/ Summary

Die finnische Architektin und Künstlerin Pia Lindman lebt in New York. Dort hat sie immer die finnische Sauna vermisst und sich über das Verhältnis der Amerikaner zur Nacktheit gewundert. Im Rahmen einer Kunstaktion der Galerie PS 1 des Museum of Modern Art baut sie eine finnische Sauna (mit einem trennenden Samtvorhang in der Mitte) und animiert die Galeriebesucher zum Bad in der Sauna. Der Film begleitet die Aktion, mit der Künstlerin wird darüber reflektiert, warum es so schwer für Amerikaner ist, ihren nackten Körper zu zeigen, und warum Finnen denken, dass es ganz natürlich ist, mit völlig Fremden nackt in der Sauna zu sein.

Finnish architect and artist Pia Lindman lives in New York. She always missed the Finnish sauna there and was surprised at the American attitude to nudity. In an art event at the PS 1 gallery at the Museum of Modern Art she built a Finnish sauna (with a velvet curtain in the middle) and enocouraged gallery visitors to have a sauna. The film documents the event and muses with the artist on the question of why Americans find it so difficult to show their bodies, and why Finns find nothing even remotely odd about being stark naked in a sauna with complete strangers.

Stefan Randström, Jahrgang 1963, stammt aus in Hangö in Finnland. Er gehört zur Schwedisch sprechenden Minderheit in Land. Bevor er Dokumentarfilme drehte, arbeitete er als Journalist für Fernsehen, Hörfunk und Printmedien. Zudem ist er Autor diverser Bücher, so des Kinderbuches "Why Angels Drive Scooters". 1993 schrieb er das Musical "Hype", das ein großer Erfolg wurde: über 200 Vorführungen, über 200.000 verkaufte Tickets. Stefan Randström lebt heute in Toronto in Kanada.

Stefan Randström, born in 1963, comes from Hangö in Finland. He belongs to the country's Swedish-speaking minority. Before making documentary films, he worked as a journalist for television, radio and print media. He is also author of various books, including the children's book "Why Angels Drive Scooters". In 1993 he wrote the musical "Hype", which was a major success, with more than 200 screenings and more than 200,000 tickets sold. Stefan Randström lives in Toronto, Canada.
