Inge Viett und Maria Barhoum: zwei Frauen, die Ende der 60-er Jahre überzeugt und kompromisslos für eine revolutionäre Veränderung der Welt kämpften: Inge Viett in Deutschland, Maria Barhoum in Uruguay. 1999, zehn Jahre nach dem Zusammenbruch der sozialistischen Welt, treffen sie sich auf Kuba; ein dritter fremder Ort – und doch wie ein Spiegel für einige ihrer Fragen, Hoffnungen, Befürchtungen. Der Film erzählt vom wahren Leben der Inge Viett, ehemals Mitglied der „Bewegung 2.Juni“ und der RAF in der BRD und der ehemaligen DDR, das Volker Schlöndorff als historische Vorlage für seinen Spielfilm „Die Stille nach dem Schuss“ verwandte. Und der Film erzählt zugleich von Maria Barhoum, ihrem revolutionären Kampf und ihrem Weg ins Exil. Eine Suche nach den Fäden der gemeinsamen Utopien beider Frauen unter den verschiedenen Bedingungen auf den zwei Kontinenten. Dabei entsteht ein Doppelporträt jenseits der Verherrlichung oder Verdammung der beiden Frauen und der sie begleitenden Umstände.

Inge Viett and Maria Barhoum fought with uncompromising conviction to change the world in the late 1960s: Inge Viett in Germany, Maria Barhoum in Uruguay. In 1999, 10 years after the collapse of the socialist world, they met in Cuba – a country that seemed to mirror many of their questions, hopes and fears. The film looks at the real life of Inge Viett as a former member of the 2nd of June Movement and the Red Army Faction in East and West Germany, which Volker Schlöndorff used as the historic material for his fictional “Die Stille nach dem Schuss”. The film also tells of Maria Barhoum, her revolutionary struggle and her road to exile. Two utopian visions sought under very different conditions on two continents. The result is a double portrait of the two women and their circumstances that succeeds in avoiding the twin pitfalls of condemnation and glorification.

Regisseurin Kristina Konrad, geboren 1953 in Zug (Schweiz), studierte von 1973 bis 1977 Geschichte und Philosophie in Genf und Paris. Ab 1978 war sie für das Schweizer Fernsehen tätig. 1983 lebte sie in New York, drehte hier ein Jahr lang Super-8-Filme und bildete sich in den Fächern Kamera und Montage aus. Nach zwei Jahren in Nicaragua arbeitete sie bis 1994 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Seit 1994 lebt die Filmemacherin in Berlin und Montevideo.

Director Kristina Konrad, born in 1953 in Zug (Switzerland), studied History and Philosophy at Geneva and Paris from 1973 to 1977. From 1978 she worked for Swiss TV. In 1983 she spent a year in New York making Super 8 films and learning camerawork and montage. After two years in Nicaragua she worked i Montevideo, Uruguay until 1994. Since 1994 she has divided her time between Berlin and Montevideo.
