Inhalt/ Summary

Der erste Spielfilm mit Laienschauspielern über das Leben der Nenet, einem Tundravolk im asiatischen Nordrussland, der in der Sprache der Nomaden gedreht wurde. Anderthalb Jahre wurde an dem Film gearbeitet, zum Teil unter extremen Bedingungen: in riesigen Mückenschwärmen, bei eisiger Kälte bis zu minus 56 Grad. Die Nenets leben noch heute fast wie vor hunderten von Jahren. Hauptnahrung sind Rentierfleisch, Fisch und Beeren. Das erste und siebte „Lied“ des Filmes sind dokumentarisch, die übrigen inszeniert. Die Nenets, die kein Theater, kein professionelles Schauspiel kennen, übernahmen alle 70 Rollen. Die Begeisterung war so groß, dass sich 450 Kandidaten gemeldet hatten.

The first feature film about the life of the Nenets, a nomadic people living in the tundra of northern Russia, made in their own language. The film took a year and a half to make, under extreme conditions in areas plagued by swarms of flies and sub-zero temperatures. The Nenets still live as they have done for centuries, surviving on reindeer meat, fish and berries. The first and seventh “songs” of the film are documentary scenes. All the others are fictional. The Nenets, who have no knowledge of theatre or experience of professional acting, played all 70 roles in the film, for which no fewer than 450 auditioned.

Regisseurin Anastasia Lapsui, Jahrgang 1944, wurde auf der Halbinsel Yamal in Russland geboren. Von 1966 bis 1997 arbeitete sie als Journalistin. Ihr erstes Drehbuch schrieb sie 1990. Seit 1993 dreht sie gemeinsam mit Markku Lehmuskallio.Regisseur Markku Lehmuskallio, Jahrgang 1938, arbeitet von 1963 bis 1969 als Förster. Durch ein Feuer verlor er alles, änderte sein Leben und begann Filme zu machen. Er drehte unter anderem Naturfilme für das finnische Fernsehen.

Director Anastasia Lapsui was born in 1944 on Russia‘s Yamal peninsula. From 1966 to 1997 she worked as a radio and newspaper journalist. She wrote her first script in 1990. She has been filming with Markku Lehmuskallio since 1993.Director Markku Lehmuskallio, born in 1938, worked as a forester from 1963 to 1969. When he lost everything in a fire, his life changed fundamentally. Using a 16 mm camera, he started making industrial films aswell as nature films for Finnish television.
