Inhalt/ Summary

Tomi und sein Vater ziehen aus dem Süden Finnlands in den Norden des Landes, in die Nähe des nördlichsten Wildtierreservats der Welt. Tomis Vater ist ein Zoologe. Er will in dieser Wildnis Luchse wieder aussiedeln. Die örtliche Bevölkerung ist gegen dieses Experiment. Sie befürchtet, dass die Luchse ihre Tiere reißen würden. Stadtkind Tomi freundet sich mit einem im Käfig gehaltenen Luchs an. Als die Versuche des Vaters scheitern, soll das Tier an einen Zoo verkauft werden. Tomi aber beschließt, es freizulassen. Doch der in der Gefangenschaft aufgewachsene Luchs hat nie gelernt, in der freien Natur zu überleben. Ein Wilddieb, der als Tierpräparator sein Auskommen hat, beginnt eine gnadenlose Jagd auf den Luchs. Als die Wildnis im Winter in Eis und Schnee erstarrt, kommt es zu einem Kampf auf Leben und Tod.

Tommy and his father move from the south of Finland to the north of the country, close to the most northerly situated wild animal reserve in the world. Tommy’s father is a zoologist. He wants to reintroduce lynx into this wilderness. The local population is against the experiment. They are afraid that the lynx will destroy their domesticated animals. The city boy Tommy strikes up a friendship with a caged lynx. When his father’s experiments fail, there are plans to sell the lynx to a zoo. Tommy decides to set the animal free. But the lynx, which grew up in captivity, has never learnt to survive in natural surroundings. A poacher who makes his living as a taxidermist begins a merciless hunt for the lynx. In winter, when the wilderness freezes over with ice and snow, this turns into a life and death struggle.

Regisseur Raimo O. Niemi, Jahrgang 1948, hat von 1971 bis 1976 an der Filmschule in Moskau studiert. Nach seinem Studienabschluss begann er in Finnland für Film und Fernsehen zu arbeiten. Beim Fernsehen produzierte und inszenierte er über 20 Filme und Serien für Kinder und Jugendliche.

Director Raimo O. Niemi, born in 1948, studied at the Film Academy in Moscow from 1971 to 1976. After completing his studies, he began to work for film and television in Finland. He has produced and directed over 20 television films and series for children and young people.
