der Ehrenvorsitzenden der Nordischen Filmtage / from the Honorary President of the Nordic Film Days

Vor einem Jahr, anlässlich des 40-jährigen Jubiläums der Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck, wurde ich Ehrenprofessorin in Schleswig-Holstein. Darauf bin ich weiter sehr stolz. Ich freue mich also besonders, diesem Filmfest im Norden Deutschlands alles Gute zu wünschen. Die Filmtage stehen mir besonders nahe, denn hier werden Filme aufgeführt, die man sonst kaum in Deutschland zu sehen bekommt - ja sogar in Skandinavien sind sie eine Seltenheit. Im Norden bekommen wir die europäischen Filme vergleichsweise selten zu sehen, und ich hoffe, dies ändert sich in den nächsten Jahren.
Zur Zeit arbeite ich gerade an meinem neuesten Film und kann deshalb dieses Jahr nicht nach Lübeck kommen. Nächstes Jahr hoffe ich sehr, dabei sein zu können, und freue mich auch darauf, einige Vorträge zu halten. Letztes Jahr bat mich die Ministerpräsidentin von Schleswig-Holstein, Heide Simonis, darum, und ich sagte spontan zu. Also - bis zum nächsten Jahr!
Ich wünsche den 41. Nordischen Filmtagen in diesem Jahr viel Erfolg, und ich bin überzeugt - sie werden Ihnen viel Freude bereiten!

One year ago, on the occasion of the 40th jubilee of the Nordic Film Days Lübeck in 1998, I was named honorary professor in Schleswig-Holstein, and I am still proud of the fact. So it is a great pleasure to give my regards to this film festival in the north of Germany. It is near to my heart because it shows films which are rarely seen in Germany and, for that matter, in the Scandinavian countries either. Likewise, we seldom see European films in the cinemas of the north, and I hope that will change during the coming years.
I am busy preparing a new film right now, so I won't have time to come to Lübeck this year. But next year I hope to be back in Lübeck - and, to give substance to the honorary professorship, to hold lectures there as well. Heide Simonis, the Minister-President of -Schleswig-Holstein, asked me last year whether I would do this, and I spontaneously said "yes". So see you next year!
