Jenseits des 40. Geburtstags werden die Gratulationen immer herzlicher und auch ein bisschen unverblümter. Ich verstehe nicht, dass die 41. Nordischen Filmtage noch immer in der tristen und nassen Jahreszeit stattfinden, aber ich bin gewillt, das Beste darin zu sehen: den gelungenen Versuch, die dunkelste Jahreszeit in Norddeutschland durch Kino aufzuhellen. Vielleicht haben ja auch Sie in diesem Jahr in Lübeck ihre helle Freude an den poetischen Märchenfilmen: Ob "Der standhafte Zinnsoldat" oder "Galoschen des Glücks", ich hoffe sehr, dass ich von der umfänglichen Retrospektive über Hans Christian Andersen etwas sehen werde.
Der NDR ist ein treuer Begleiter des Festivals; er sorgt immer wieder dafür, dass etliche der neuen Produktionen, die in Lübeck vorgestellt werden, ihren Weg ins Programm des Norddeutschen Fernsehens, N 3, finden. Der NDR unterstützt das Festival durch die Förderung von Filmen und durch Ankäufe. Auch in Zeiten knapper Kassen bleiben wir Medienpartner, denn wir nehmen unseren kulturellen Auftrag ernst - und profitieren von dieser Förderung auch selbst. Von der Filmkunst, die hier in Lübeck präsentiert wird, gehen Impulse auch für das eigene Haus aus. So stiftet der NDR auch in diesem Jahr den mit 25.000 DM dotierten Förderpreis.
Ich freue mich, dass der Europäische Kulturkanal ARTE in diesem Jahr mit Produktionen auf dem Festival vertreten ist. Aufmerksam machen möchte ich Sie auf den Film über Jean Sibelius.
Ich bin überzeugt, dass die Filme von ARTE eine kongeniale Ergänzung des Programms der Nordischen Filmtage sind, und hoffe, dass der Premierenkanal ARTE - er zeigt das Beste von ARD und ZDF vorab - auch in Zukunft Abwechslung in den Lübecker November bringt.
 
 
After a 40th birthday, the congratulations become warmer, and also a little blunter: I don't understand why the 41st Nordic Film Days still have to take place in such a gloomy and wet season, but I am willing to see the positive side, too: let us view it as a successful attempt to bring light into northern Germany's darkest time of year by means of the cinema. Perhaps you too will find your mood brightened by the poetic fairy-tale films this year in Lübeck; whether it be the "Staunch Tin Soldier" or "The Gift of Happiness", I very much hope that I shall be able to see something of the comprehensive retrospective on Hans Christian Andersen.
The NDR has always been a faithful companion to the festival; we make sure that many of the new productions presented in Lübeck find their way into the programme of the North German Television Channel, N 3. The NDR supports the festival both by promoting films and by making acquisitions. We shall continue to be a media partner in an age when cash is hard to come by, for we take our cultural mission seriously - and we profit from this support ourselves: there are impulses for our own work to be found in the film art presented here in Lübeck. Once again this year, therefore, the NDR will be donating the Promotion Prize endowed with 25,000 DM.
I am delighted that the European cultural channel ARTE is represented by productions at the festival this year. I would like to draw your attention to the film about Jean Sibelius.
I am convinced that these ARTE-films will be an ideal complement to the programme of the Nordic Film Days, and I hope that the premiere channel ARTE - which shows the best of ARD and ZDF in advance - will continue to bring diversity to future Novembers in Lübeck.
