Der starke Norden Europas / Europe's High-Powered North

Es war ein gutes Filmjahr, und wir stehen vor der Schwierigkeit, dass es sehr viele gute Filme gibt - und wir können sie nicht alle zeigen.
Wie in jedem Jahr präsentieren wir Spiel-, Dokumentar-, Kinder- und Kurzfilme aus den nordischen Ländern und dem Baltikum. Dazu das Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein.
Wir freuen uns, Joachim Król als Mitglied der NDR-Jury gewonnen zu haben. Er hat eine große Liebe zu Land und Leuten im Norden Europas, und ihm haben wir eine Hommage mit dreien seiner Filme gewidmet. Der Nachwuchs ist stark, die Themen sind es nicht minder. Junge Migranten stehen im Mittelpunkt der beiden dänischen Spielfilme "Bleeder" und "Pizza King". Andere, fremde Welten erschließen sich in den Dokumentarfilmen über die Minderheiten der Samen und das kleine Volk der Selkupen in West-Sibirien. Grönland wollen wir Ihnen näher bringen mit drei Filmen aus und über die nördlichste Insel der Erde. Wir zeigen in diesem Jahr verstärkt Filme vom Kulturkanal ARTE. Verstärkte Präsenz auch der baltischen Filmschaffenden auf den Nordischen Filmtagen. Endlich!
Eine kleine cinematographische Kostbarkeit präsentieren wir Ihnen zusammen mit der Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek Berlin und dem Lübecker Heinrich- und Thomas-Mann-Zentrum: den 1923 entstandenen Stummfilm von Gerhard Lamprecht "Die Buddenbrooks". Die Nordischen Filmtage zeigen ihn als erste in der restaurierten Fassung.
Dass Heimat nicht hausbacken ist, beweist einmal mehr das Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein mit Produktionen aus dem und über das Land. Und dass Kinderfilme nicht nur für Kinder, sondern auch für ihre Eltern interessant sind, zeigt unser Kinderprogramm. In unserer Retrospektive wird deutlich, dass H. C. Andersen nicht nur ein Märchendichter, sondern ein vielschichtiger Mensch war, der auch Erwachsene in seinen Bann schlägt.
Schließlich: 50 Jahre sind seit dem Regiedebüt des norwegischen Regisseurs Arne Skouen vergangen. Ihm widmen wir die Werkschau und heissen ihn - wie hoffentlich auch Sie - bei den 41. Nordischen Filmtagen Lübeck vom 4. bis 7. November 1999 herzlich willkommen.
 
 
It was a good year for films and our only problem is that there are so many good ones that we can't show them all.
As every year, we are presenting feature, documentary, children's and short films from the Nordic countries and the Baltic. In addition, there is the Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein. We are delighted to welcome Joachim Król as a member of the NDR jury. He has always demonstrated a great love for the land and the peoples of northern Europe, and this year we are dedicating a tribute to Król, showing three of his films. The younger generation of film--makers is high-powered, their themes are no less so. Young immigrants, for example, are the focus of the Danish feature films "Bleeder" and "Pizza King". Different, strange worlds reveal themselves in documentaries about the minority group of the Sami people and the tiny group of Selkupe in western Siberia. We aim to bring Greenland closer to you with three films from and about this area, the northernmost island in the world. This year we will be showing you more films from the cultural channel ARTE. There will also be an increase in the number of Baltic film-makers attending the festival. At last!
Together with the "Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek Berlin" and the Heinrich and Thomas Mann Centre in Lübeck, we are presenting something of a cinematic treasure: the silent film "The Buddenbrooks" directed by Gerhard Lamprecht in 1923. The Nordic Film Days Lübeck are showing the restored version of this classic for the first time.
The Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein will be proving once again that a home land doesn't have to be homespun and humdrum with productions from and about the region. And our children's programme will demonstrate that children's films are not just for children, but can also be of interest to their parents. In our retrospective, viewers will realise that H. C. Andersen was not only a writer of fairy-tales, but also a mysterious personality able to cast his spell over the adult world.
And finally: 50 years have passed since the directing debut of the Norwegian director Arne Skouen. We are de-dicating the film survey to his work, and are delighted to welcome him - and hopefully you as well - to the 41st Nordic Film Days Lübeck from 4th to 7th November 1999.
