NDR-Förderpreis - Begründung der Jury

Anläßlich der 41. Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck 1999 vergibt die Jury den mit 25.000 Mark dotierten NDR-Förderpreis an:
 
BYE BYE BLUEBIRD
 
Schlie�t man von den hier gezeigten Filmen auf den Zustand der nordischen L�nder, so scheint Gewalt das t�gliche Leben zu bestimmen. Da� dies wohl nicht so ist, wissen wir aus vielen pers�nlichen Begegnungen, unter anderem bei diesem Festival. So haben wir vor allem die Filme sch�tzen gelernt, in denen die Gewalt nicht vordergr�ndig als inszenatorisches Mittel eingesetzt wird. Eine lobende Erw�hnung verdient der Film THE TOUGH ONES. Der junge Regisseur Aleksi M�kel� zeichnet seine Protagonisten mit Liebe und Verst�ndnis, so da� hinter der Fassade von Rohheit und Brutalit�t der Mensch erkennbar bleibt. Vielleicht hat uns gerade das Angebot an extremen Filmen dazu bewogen, den diesj�hrigen NDR-F�rderpreis einem Film zuzusprechen, der uns mit Leichtigkeit und Sensibilit�t von der Suche zweier M�dchen unserer Zeit nach ihren Wurzeln erz�hlt. Der NDR-F�rderpreis geht auf die F�r�er-Inseln an Katrin Ottards�ttir und ihren Film BYE BYE BLUEBIRD.

NDR Promotion Prize - Statement of the Jury

On the occasion of the 41th Nordic Film Days Lübeck 1999 the Jury awards the NDR Promotion Prize amounting to 25.000 marks to:
 
BYE BYE BLUEBIRD
 
or the following reason:
 
If you make conclusions about conditions in the Nordic countries based on the films that were shown here, it appears that violence determines daily life. That this is not the case we know from the many personal encounters at this festival and other places. So we have learned to admire films in particular in which violence is not used as the primary means of staging the story. The film THE TOUGH ONES has earned a Special Mention. The young director Aleksi M�kel� depicts his protagonists with love and understanding so that the human being remains visible behind the roughness and brutality. Perhaps it was this great number of extreme films that moved us to award this year�s NDR Promotion Prize to a film which tells in a light-hearted and sensitive way of the search of two girls of our time for their roots. The NDR Promotion Prize goes to the Faroe Islands, to Katrin Ottarsd�ttir and her film BYE BYE BLUEBIRD.
