Rund um die Buddenbrooks

Gerhard Lamprechts Die Buddenbrooks (1923), die erste Verfilmung eines Thomas Mann-Romans, transportiert die Geschichte der Lübecker Patrizierfamilie ins 20. Jahrhundert. Der Film entstand zwar weitgehend im Ufa-Atelier in Berlin-Tempelhof, viele Original-Innenaufnahmen wurden jedoch in Lübeck gedreht. Anläßlich der Präsentation des von der Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek Berlin restaurierten Films haben Dr. Manfred Eickhölter und Holger Pils vom Heinrich- und Thomas-Mann-Zentrum eine Ausstellung zusammengetragen, die Dokumente zur Vorgeschichte, Produktion und Vermarktung des Films zeigt. Bei der Gala-Vorführung am 6. November um 18.45 Uhr mit Klavierbegleitung von Werner Loll hält Dr. Eickhölter die Einführung. An der Vorführung nehmen Vertreter der Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek teil, wie auch der Filmhistoriker Artem Demenok, der die Restaurierung vornahm und kurz darüber berichten wird. Eine zweite Vorführung des Films ohne Vortrag, dafür mit Klavierbegleitung und einem Kurzfilm über Lübeck mit Aufnahmen der Stadt vor 1922 findet anschließend um 21.45 Uhr wieder im Kino 2 statt.

The Buddenbrooks Adaptation

Gerhard Lamprecht’s Die Buddenbrooks (1923), the first filmic adaptation of a Thomas Mann novel, transports the story of the Lübeck patrician family to the 20th century. It was shot mostly in the Berlin Ufa studios, but many interiors were done on location in Lübeck. Parallel to the screenings, the Heinrich and Thomas Mann Centre has organised an exhibition about the background of the film production. At the gala presentation on November 6 at 18.45 hrs Dr. Manfred Eickhölter will introduce the film. Artem Demenok, who restored the print on behalf of the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek Berlin, will also attend the screening together with representatives of the Kinemathek. A second screening will follow at 21.45 hrs. As in the first presentation, Dr. Werner Loll will accompany the silent film on pia-no. There will be no speeches, but instead a short film with shots of Lübeck before 1922 will be shown.
