40. Nordische Filmtage Lübeck

Grußwort der Ehrenvorsitzenden der Nordischen Filmtage

Es ist mir eine große Freude, mit einem Filmfest verbunden zu sein, welches seit 40 Jahren dem nordischen Film ein Schaufenster in Deutschland bietet. Über die Jahre ist meinen eigenen Filmen - sowohl meine Regiearbeiten wie auch viele meiner Rollen - durch die Aufführung in Lübeck zu größerer Akzeptanz und, wie ich glaube, auch zu größerer Bekanntheit außerhalb Skandinaviens verholfen worden.
Die Nordischen Filmtage genießen einerseits den Vorteil eines jungen, filmbegeisterten Publikums, an dem die skandinavischen Filmemacher die Reaktion auf ihre Werke messen lassen können. Wohl wissen wir, daß wir keine Filme in der Art machen, wie sie aus Hollywood nach Europa exportiert werden. Doch wir sind uns auch der langen und lebendigen Tradition des europäischen Kinos bewußt, und daß es für unsere Art des Films eine wichtige Marktlücke gibt - nicht zuletzt in Deutschland und den anderen Ländern Europas. Auf diesem Festival können wir also die Wirkung unserer Filme auf die Art von Publikum beobachten, die sie sich später vielleicht im Kino oder im Fernsehen ansehen wird. Für diese Art von Test eignet sich Lübeck hervorragend.
Deshalb ist die breite Auswahl der Filme aus Skandinavien und dem Baltikum auf den Nordischen Filmtagen auch von solcher Bedeutung. Immerhin kann der Zuschauer aus über 100 Filmen auswählen. Die Auswahl der Filme aus den nordischen und baltischen Staaten erlaubt es den Zuschauern wie dem Fachpublikum - Verleiher sowie Kino- und Fernsehbetreiber - Einblick in das gesamte filmische Schaffen eines Jahres zu gewinnen, nach einer gezielten Vorauswahl durch das Auswahlgremium unter Mitsprache der Nordischen Filminstitute. Nützlich ist ebenfalls die direkte Partnerschaft mit einer führenden Fernsehanstalt, dem NDR, die weit über reines Sponsorentum hinausgeht.
Ich hoffe, die Nordischen Filmtage können ihren Erfolgskurs in Zukunft weiterführen und ihr Ansehen in Deutschland sowie in den Ländern des Nordens weiter steigern. Und für diejenigen unter uns, die während des Festivals neue Freundchaften geschlossen haben, bietet sich ein willkommener Anlaß, miteinander zu reden, zu diskutieren und zu lachen - und zu zeigen, daß die besten Filme eine der besten Verständigungsgrundlagen zwischen den Menschen sind.

A Word of Welcome from the Honorary President of the Nordic Film Days

It is a great pleasure for me to be associated with a film festival that for forty years has provided a window for Nordic films in Germany. My own films - those I directed and many of those in which I played - have been shown in Lübeck over the years and I believe it has helped them to find greater acceptance and thus become better known outside of Scandinavia.
For one thing, the Nordic Film Days have the advantage of having a young and enthusiastic film-loving audience, so that Scandinavian filmmakers and producers can see how such spectators react to their films. We know very well that we don't produce the kind of films that Hollywood sends over to Europe, but we are also well aware of the long and strong tradition of European cinema and know that there is an important niche for our films - not least of all in Germany and other European countries. We can therefore use the festival to test the effect of our films on the kind of viewers who will eventually go to see them or watch them on television, and Lübeck is perfect for this kind of test.
It is therefore important that the Nordic Film Days show such a broad spectrum of films from Scandinavia and the Baltic states - the spectators have over 100 Nordic films to chose from. The fact that the festival specialises in Nordic and Baltic films offers both the audience and film professionals - distributors, theatre owners and television people - the opportunity to gain an overview of the whole production for a particular year, a production that has been pre-screened for quality by the festival selection committee with the help of the Nordic film institutes. It also helps that with the NDR there is a direct partnership between the festival and a leading television station that goes far beyond mere sponsorship.
It's my hope that the great success of the Nordic Film Days Lübeck will continue in the future and that the recognition of the festival in the Nordic countries as well as in Germany itself will continue to grow. And for those of us who have made friends here during the days of the festival, this is a very happy occasion to meet again, to talk and discuss and laugh together again - and show that the best of cinema is another great source of commucincation between people.
