Inhalt/ Summary

Die Geschichte schwedischer Bauernfamilien, die in einer ausweglosen sozialen Situation leben und deshalb 1850 auswandern. Nach strapaziöser Überfahrt erreichen sie New York. Doch die Reise ist noch längst nicht zu Ende. Mit dem Zug und Dampfschiff geht es weiter nach Nordwesten. In Minnesota findet der Anführer der Auswanderer, Karl Oskar Nilsson, endlich den Platz, um sich eine neue Existenz aufzubauen.

The story of Swedish peasants in 1850 whose social situation is so hopeless that they decide to emigrate. After an exhausting voyage they finally arrive in New York. But they have a long way to go before they reach their final destination. They continue on to the Northwest by railway and steamer. In Minnesota the leader of the emigrants, Karl Oskar Nilsson, finally finds the place to begin to build a new existence.

Aus Anlaß der 40. Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck bedanken sich die NFL bei ihrer Ehrenvorsitzenden Liv Ullmann mit einer Hommage, in der vier Spielfilme und zwei Dokumentationen zu sehen sind. Besonders freuen sich die Nordischen Filmtage, daß Liv Ullmann selbst bei den NFL und der Hommage dabei ist. Einer der Filme ist übrigens der erklärte Lieblingsfilm von Liv Ullmann: "Emigranten" von Regisseur Jan Troell.

On the occasion of the 40th Nordic Film Days Lübeck the festival expresses its gratitude to Honorary President Liv Ullmann in the form of a tribute presenting four feature films and two documentaries. The Nordic Film Days are particularly happy that Liv Ullmann is attending the festival and will be present at the tribute. One of the films, she has revealed, is her favourite: "The Emigrants" directed by Jan Troell.
