Inhalt/ Summary

Das Weltbild Adolf Hitlers, Heinrich Himmlers und anderer nationalsozialistischer Führer war neben politischen und wirtschaftlichen Theorien auch geprägt durch okkulte esoterische Geheimlehren. In deren Mittelpunkt standen der auserwählte Held und die deutsche, arisch genannte Rasse, die zur Weltherrschaft berufen sei. Diese Ideen waren nicht nur auf kleine abgeschlossene Zirkel begrenzt, sondern entsprachen dem politischen Zeitgeist seit der Jahrhundertwende. Die okkulten Orden und Bünde waren bereits extrem nationalistisch und antisemitisch, und die Nazis nutzten diese Thesen, um ihre Rassentheorie mythisch zu untermauern. Sie dienten als Begründung für Himalaja-Expeditionen auf den Spuren der Arier, die Propagierung Bayreuths als Wallfahrtsort und den Ausbau der SS zur ordensgleich organisierten Eliteeinheit. Letztendlich bildeten sie den Hintergrund für Menschenversuche und Vernichtungslager. Der Film zeichnet diese Mythen und okkulten Hintergründe des "Dritten Reiches" nach.

Aside from political and economic theories, the world view of Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler and other Nazi leaders revolved around arcane, occult theories centring on the mythic hero figure and the destiny of the Aryan race as rulers of the world. These notions were not, however, the concoctions of a small elite circle, but were widely held and propagated in Germany since the turn of the century. Occult orders and lodges existed that were rabidly nationalistic and anti-Semitic to begin with, and the Nazis used these notions to provide the mythic underpinnings of their racist doctrines. They were used as a rationale for Himalaya expeditions in search of the ancient Aryans, the canonization of Bayreuth as a Germanic shrine and the structuring of the SS as an elite secret society. Thus they also paved the way to the Nazi laboratories and extermination camps. The film exposes the myths and occult foundations of the Third Reich.

Kerstin Stutterheim, geboren 1961, machte zunächst eine Ausbildung zur Wirtschaftskauffrau und studierte dann Theaterwissenschaften in Leipzig und Berlin. Sie war Redakteurin beim Deutschen Fernsehfunk und ist seit 1992 freiberuflich als Filmemacherin tätig. Niels Bolbrinker, geboren 1951, studierte an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg und der Fachhochschule für Optik und Fototechnik in Berlin. Er arbeitet als Kameramann und realisierte mehrere eigene Dokumentarfilme.

Kerstin Stutterheim, born in 1961, first began studying business before taking up theatre studies in Leipzig and Berlin. She was a producer for East German television and became a freelance filmmaker in 1992. Niels Bolbrinker, born in 1951, studied at Hamburg Art Academy and the Berlin Technical School for Optics and Photography. He works as cameraman and has directed his own documentaries.
