39. Nordische Filmtage Lübeck

Wieder ist Schleswig-Holstein eine kulturelle Brücke zum Norden. Zum 39. Mal veranstaltet die Hansestadt Lübeck in diesem Herbst die Nordischen Filmtage. Wieder versucht das Festival, mit den vorgestellten Filmen Qualität und Popularität zu verknüpfen, und ich bin zuversichtlich, daß dies wie in den vergangenen Jahren gelingen wird. Niemand verkörpert diese Verbindung so sehr wie Liv Ullmann, die aus gutem Grund Ehrenvorsitzende der Nordischen Filmtage ist. Nicht nur die Veranstalter freuen sich, daß sie in diesem Jahr in Lübeck mit "Einzelgespräche" wieder eine eigene Regiearbeit vorstellt.
Die besondere Erzählkunst der Filmemacher und -macherinnen aus Skandinavien, dem Baltikum und Schleswig-Holstein wird vier Tage lang einen Kontrapunkt zu den schnellen Bildern setzen, ohne die das Fernsehen heute nicht mehr auskommt. Eine interessante Entwicklung ist, daß das Festival in diesem Jahr besonders viele Dokumentarfilme präsentieren wird; es gibt so etwas wie eine neue Begeisterung für die Sachlichkeit. Insgesamt zeigen die Veranstalter in diesem Jahr rund 100 Spiel-, Dokumentar- und Kurz- sowie Kinder- und Jugendfilme.
Etliche Produktionen finden ihren Weg ins Fernsehen. Schön wäre es, wenn noch mehr Dokumentationen auch im Kino zu sehen wären. Der NDR unterstützt das Festival durch die Förderung von Filmen und durch Ankäufe. Auch in der Zeit der knappen Kassen ist der NDR der Hauptpartner der Veranstaltung. Weil ihm sein kultureller Auftrag wichtig ist - und weil er genau weiß, daß von der Filmkunst, die hier in Lübeck präsentiert wird, wichtige Impulse auch für das eigene Haus ausgehen. So stiftet der NDR auch in diesem Jahr den mit 25 000 Mark dotierten Förderpreis.
Eine Filmkultur kann nun mal nur leben, wenn es Begegnungen der Filmschaffenden gibt und Herausforderungen, bei denen sie ihr Können unter Beweis stellen. Und nicht zuletzt: aufmerksame Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauer. Auch diese werden ihren Weg wieder zum Festival finden.

A Word of Welcome from the Director of NDR

Once more Schleswig-Holstein is a cultural bridge to the north. This autumn, for the 39th time, the Hanseatic City of Lübeck is hosting the Nordic Film Days. The festival is again endeavouring to combine quality and popularity with the films presented, and I am confident that, as in the previous years, this will be the case. No one personifies this combination nearly as much as Liv Ullmann, who for good reason is the Honorary President of the Nordic Film Days. It is not only the organisers who are happy that this year in Lübeck she is presenting a work she directed herself, "Private Confessions".
The special narrative art of the filmmakers from Scandinavia, the Baltic States and Schleswig-Holstein forms a contrast here for four days to the rapid images without which television could no longer manage today. An interesting development is that the festival is showing a particularly large number of documentaries this year, thus giving something like a fresh boost to non-fiction. This year the organisers are showing approximately 100 feature, documentary and short films, as well as films for children and young people.
Numerous productions find their way into television. It would be good if even more documentaries were to be seen in the cinema. The NDR supports the festival by promot-ing and buying films. Furthermore, in todayís times of shortage of cash, the NDR is the main sponsor of the event, because our cultural responsibility is important to us ñ and because we are very much aware that the film art presented here in Lübeck provides important impulses for our own organisation. The NDR is therefore again donating a festival prize amounting to 25,000 marks.
But a film culture can only manage to survive if it pro-vides the opportunity for the makers of films to come together and challenges them to put their skills to the test. And, last but not least: it must have attentive audiences. They, too, will find their way to the Nordic Film Days.
