39. Nordische Filmtage Lübeck - 10. Jahre Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein

Zehn Jahre

besteht das Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein. 240 Filme haben wir bisher präsentiert. 32 weitere erwarten uns dieses Jahr. Einige der Filmemacherinnen und Filmemacher sind alte Bekannte, deren Schaffen wir über die Jahre begleitet haben, andere sind vielversprechende junge Talente, von denen wir uns noch viel erhoffen. Besonders froh sind wir darüber, daß wir mit Lars Büchels "Vier Geschichten von fünf Toten" und Janek Riekes "Härtetest" zwei Spielfilmdebüts von jungen Filmemachern im Programm haben, die bereits mit ihren Jugendwerken beim Filmforum vertreten waren und inzwischen erfolgreich ihr Filmstudium abgeschlossen haben.
Aber auch was derzeit von jungen Schleswig-Holsteinerinnen und Schleswig-Holsteinern an deutschen Filmhochschulen und im Umfeld der Filmwerkstatt der Kulturellen Filmförderung produziert wird, läßt für die Zukunft hoffen. Die Vielzahl der Kurzfilme im Programm des diesjährigen Filmforums gibt Zeugnis davon. Erfreulich ist auch, daß wir zwei neue Arbeiten von Preisträgern des bundesweiten Wettbewerbs "Jugend und Video" vorstellen können, der für drei Jahre in Schleswig-Holstein ausgerichtet wird.
Die Dokumentarfilme bilden traditionell einen Schwerpunkt im Programm des Filmforums. Sie konnten in den vergangenen Jahren Publikum, Kritik und Jurys gleichermaßen beeindrucken. Bereits viermal in Folge ging der bei den Nordischen Filmtagen Lübeck vergebene Dokumentarfilmpreis der IG-Metall an einen Film aus dem Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein.
Ein Rückblick auf zehn Jahre Filmforum ist auch ein Rückblick auf zehn Jahre Filmförderung in Schleswig-Holstein, in denen es gelungen ist, verschiedenesiedene Strukturen miteinander zu vernetzen und ein aufeinander abgestimmtes Förderungssystem zu etablieren, das von der Nachwuchsförderung zur Kulturellen Filmförderung und zur fernseh-bezogenen Förderung durch die MSH reicht.
Das Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein ist das Schaufenster dieser Förderung. Es zeigt die Breite und die Kreativität der hiesigen Filmszene und bietet den Filmemacherinnen und Filmemachern die Möglichkeit, sich auf ìheimischemî Boden dem internationalen Vergleich zu stellen. Aber das Filmforum ist auch auf die Förderung angewiesen, d.h. ohne (ausreichende) Förderung gibt es kein (interessantes) Filmforum. Deshalb sind wir besorgt, daß durch die alljährlichen Haushaltskürzungen die ohnehin schon geringen Mittel für die Kulturelle Filmförderung von Jahr zu Jahr weniger werden. Eine Förderung in der angestrebten Breite ist dadurch kaum mehr möglich, und auch die Arbeit von Filmbüro und Filmwerkstatt der Kulturellen Filmförderung sind bedroht.
Zum zehnten Geburtstag des Filmforums gibt es aber zunächst einmal ein besonders Geschenk: Der Schleswig-Holsteinische Heimatbund verleiht seinen Medienpreis, der ebenfalls zehn Jahre alt wird, in diesem Jahr an einen Film aus dem Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein.

Ten Years

it has been since the Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein was founded. And during that time we have presented 240 films. Another 32 await us this year. Some of the filmmakers are familiar faces at the Filmforum whose work we have been following over the years, while others are promising young newcomers in whose coming productions we set high hopes. We are especially happy that with Lars Büchels "Four Stories about Five Deceased" and Janek Riekeís "Test of Mettle" we have two feature film debuts by young filmmakers who were both represented by early works in the Filmforum and meanwhile have successfully completed their film studies.
Equally, the films being produced by young, upcoming directors from Schleswig-Holstein at German film schools and in the environs of the Film Workshop of the Cultural Film Fund give us reason for optimism. The many short films in the programme of the Filmforum are evidence of this, too. We are very pleased to be able to present two new works by prizewinners of the nationwide competition îYouth and Videoî, which is taking place in Schleswig-Holstein for three years.
Documentary films have traditionally been a fundamental part of the Filmforumís programme. In past years they were able to impress audiences, critics and juries alike. Four times in a row the Documentary Film Prize donated by IG-Metall trade union for a documentary shown at the Nordic Film Days went to a film from the Filmforum
Schleswig-Holstein.
A survey of ten years of the Filmforum is also a survey of ten years of film subsidy in Schleswig-Holstein. During this time it has been possible to link together different structures and to establish a system in which film support is coordinated, so that it ranges from the support of young talent in the Cultural Film Fund to television-related subvention by the MHS.
The Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein is the showcase for this film support. It demonstrates the breadth and creativity of the local film scene and offers filmmakers the opportunity to stand up to comparison with international productions on "home groundî. The Filmforum is dependent on film support, for without (sufficient) support there would not be an (interesting) Filmforum. And for this reason we are very concerned about the annual budget cuts that year by year further reduce the already meager funds of the Cultural Film Fund. Support to a desirable degree and breadth is hardly possible any more, and the work of the Film Office and the Film Workshop of the Cultural Film Fund is threatened.
But there is also a special present on the occasion of the Filmforumís tenth anniversary. The Schleswig-Holstein Heimatbund is awarding its annual Media Prize, which also celebrates its tenth birthday this year, to a film from the Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein.
