Eine poetisch-politische Reise durch das heutige Tibet mit Bildern aus dem Alltag und Spuren aus der Vergangenheit. Im Schein einer Taschenlampe sehen wir alte Figuren und Wandgemälde aus den Felsentempeln West-Tibets, während in den Straßen der Städte das chinesische Militär patroulliert und der große Steuermann Mao Tsetung erstaunlich präsent ist. Wir begleiten Nomaden durch überwältigende Landschaften, beobachten sie bei den Verrichtungen ihres Alltags und erfahren von ihrer Form des Widerstandes. Diese Splitter aus dem Alltag zeigen eine Kultur, die den Tod ins Leben einbezieht und den Menschen Widerstandskraft und Heiterkeit gibt. So ist der Film eine „Liebeserklärung an die Menschen eines großen, alten Kulturvolkes, das sich trotz jahrelanger Knechtschaft nicht brechen läßt".
Drei Jahre waren die Filmemacherinnen ohne Drehgenehmigung in Tibet unterwegs, wo sie mit Hilfe von Widerstandgruppen ihre beeindruckenden Aufnahmen machten. Nach „China's Tibet?", den wir im vergangenen Jahr zeigten, ist „Aus Tibet" der zweite Teil des geplanten Zyklus „Good Morning Tibet".
A poetic and political journey through modern Tibet, with scenes from daily life and pictures of the past. A flashlight illuminates old wall paintings and figures from the cliff temples of West Tibet; elsewhere, Chinese soldiers patrol the city streets and the "Great Leader" Mao Tse-Tung is surprisingly ubiquitous. We accompany nomads through magnificent landscapes, watch them organising the business of their daily lives and learn about their forms of resistance. These glimpses of daily life illuminate a traditional culture which integrates death into life and gives people both the strength to resist and the ability to enjoy. Thus, the film is a "declaration of love to the people of a great, old civilisation, which years of despotism have bowed, but not broken."
The filmmakers spent three years travelling in Tibet without filming permits, capturing impressive footage with the help of resistance groups. After "China's Tibet?", which we showed last year, "From Tibet" is the second part of the planned cycle "Good Morning Tibet".
