„Hej, ich heiße Esben und wohne auf Strynø!“ – „Hej, ich heiße Mette und komme aus Sønderup!“ So, keck und geradeheraus, präsentieren sich die beiden neunjährigen Hauptpersonen, und es ist kein Zufall, daß sie bei ihrer Vorstellung ihre Heimatorte nennen. Denn dort haben sie ihre Wurzeln, von dort gehen sie in die sonst so entwurzelte Welt. Mette und Esben erzählen von ihren Familien, von ihren Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten, ihren Interessen, Freunden und Freundinnen. Dieser Dokumentarfilm aus Kinderperspektive zeichnet ein Bild von zwei kleinen Gemeinden aus der dänischen Provinz anno 1995.
“Hi, my name is Esben and I live in Strynø!“ – “Hi, my name is Mette and I come from Sønderup!“ Pert and straightforward is the way the two nine-year-old protagonists of the documentary present themselves, and it’s no accident that they name their home towns when they introduce themselves. There they have their roots and from there they go out into an otherwise uprooted world. Mette and Esben talk about their families, about their opportunities for development, their interests, their boyfriends and girlfriends. This documentary, seen from the children’s perspective, paints a portrait of two small provincial communities in Denmark, anno 1995.
