Call of the Toad

„Unkenrufe“ von Günter Grass aus dem Jahr 1992 gilt als eine der besten Erzählungen des Literaturnobelpreisträgers. Nun hat der renommierte polnische Regisseur Robert Glinski die heitermelancholische Liebesgeschichte zwischen einem Deutschen und einer Polin nach dem Fall der Berliner Mauer erfolgreich verfilmt. Charakterdarsteller Matthias Habich und Polens Kinostar Krystyna Janda spielen die Hauptrollen der deutsch-polnischen Koproduktion, die unter anderem die Frage stellt: Gibt es die Möglichkeit einer Versöhnung von Polen und Deutschen? Und wie kann sie aussehen? Bis in die Nebenrollen ist Unkenrufe prominent besetzt (u.a. Udo Samel und Joachim Król). Die 47. Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck präsentieren den Film, der auf dem Werk eines der bekanntesten Bürger dieser Stadt basiert, in einer Sondervorstellung.

The Günter Grass novel “Call of the Toad” from the year 1992 is considered one of the best by the Nobel laureate. Now renowned Polish director Robert Glinski has turned the blissfully melancholy love story between a German man and a Polish woman after the fall of the Berlin Wall into a film. Character actor Matthias Habich and Polish film star Krystyna Janda play the leads in this German-Polish co-production, which poses such questions as: Is reconciliation between Poles and Germans possible? What form could it take? Even the minor parts in Call of the Toad are prominently cast (including Udo Samel and Joachim Król). The Nordic Film Days Lübeck will present this brand-new film based on the work of one of the city’s most prominent citizens as a special screening and a window to Poland.
