Die nordischen Filmautoren und Regisseure beherrschen die Grundmuster des europäischen Erzählkinos perfekt. Sie schaffen einzigartige Charaktere und lösen eingefahrene Genre-Muster auf. Daher nimmt es nicht wunder, dass die Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck stets aufs Neue mit ambitioniertem Kino und einer ebenso gelungenen Filmauswahl überzeugen. Sie sind die erste Adresse für den nordischen Film in Deutschland.
Auch die 46. Nordischen Filmtage spannen einen weiten Bogen über die skandinavischen und baltischen Länder bis nach Russland und Polen. Sie vereinen sowohl Staaten als auch Generationen in einem Programm, das gekennzeichnet ist durch starke Debüts und Retrospektiven, durch Dokumentationen und neue filmästhetische Trends.
Die große Zahl von Premieren ist ein Beleg dafür, dass die Produzenten aus den skandinavischen und baltischen Ländern das Festival als Tor zum deutschen Markt nutzen. Mit seinem jungen und enthusiastischen Publikum ist es ein ideales Testfeld für die neuesten Filme vor dem Bundesstart. Die Filmtage in ihrer Mischung aus Publikumsfestival und Branchentreff haben sich zu einem Ort des wirtschaftlichen und kulturellen Austausches im Ostseeraum entwickelt. In diesem Jahr gehören sie daher erstmals zur Kulturinitiative Ars Baltica.
Die Nordischen Filmtage nehmen auch einen großen Stellenwert bei der Bewerbung Lübecks als Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2010 ein. Schließlich verkörpern sie seit jeher beispielhaft die europäische Dimension.
Ich wünsche den Nordischen Filmtagen Lübeck volle Kinosäle und die hohe Akzeptanz beim Publikum, die der nordische Film verdient.

The Nordic film authors and directors are consummately skilled in the art of European narrative cinema. They create unique characters and break down the hackneyed con-ventions of the genre. Small wonder, then, that the Nordic Film Days Lübeck invariably offer an exquisite selection of ambitious films. This festival is the hub of Nordic film in Germany.
The 46th Nordic Film Days again trace a broad arc across the Scandinavian and Baltic countries all the way to Poland and Russia. They unite states and generations in a competition programme of promising debuts and fascinating retrospectives, documen-taries and new cinematic trends.
The large proportion of premieres bears witness to the fact that the producers from the Scandinavian and Baltic countries use this festival as a gateway to the German market. With a young and enthusiastic audience, it is the -ideal testing ground for the latest films before they are put on general release in Germany. The festival's blend of public appeal and industrial meeting point has made it a forum of economic and cultural exchange around the Baltic. This is reflected in the fact that this year, for the first time, the festival is included in the Ars Baltica cultural initiative.
The Nordic Film Days also play an important role in Lübeck's bid to become European Capital of Culture 2010. After all, the festival has always possessed an exemplary European dimension.
I wish the Nordic Film Days Lübeck many a full house and for Nordic film I wish the high degree of audience appreci-ation it deserves.
