Der Norden Europas zu Gast in Lübeck
 
Filmkunst und Filmschaffende aus allen Ländern Nordeuropas stehen seit Jahrzehnten im Mittelpunkt der Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck.
Diese Erfolgsgeschichte haben wir in Lübeck weiterent-wickelt. Unsere Bewerbung zur Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2010 nimmt genau diese Idee auf und will sie im Jahr 2010 auf alle Bereiche der Kunst und Kultur ausdehnen. Das wird spannend werden und die Geschichte Lübecks als Kulturzentrum an der Ostsee aus der Vergangenheit in die Zukunft fortschreiben: die Ostsee als Verbindung für Ideen, Kunstströmungen, politische Visionen und -alles, was Menschen verbinden aber auch entzweien kann.
Und noch etwas hat die Bewerbung zur Kulturhauptstadt aus den Nordischen Filmtagen gelernt: Kultur kann man nicht aufsetzen auf eine Stadt oder eine Region. Interesse und Neugier sind ebenso wie Kreativität und Gestaltung nur dann nachhaltig, wenn sie von einer soliden, vielfältigen Basis aus in einer Stadt gelebt werden.
Die Nordischen Filmtage sind genau das: in Lübeck gelebte Begeisterung für Kino, Kunst und alle Gäste aus den nordischen Ländern.
Ich freue mich, dass Sie alle wieder hier sind und unsere Wahrnehmungen bereichern und unsere Sinne schärfen, dass Sie mit uns diskutieren, empfinden und feiern werden.
Festivals wie die Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck sind die Bausteine zu einem wirklichen Europa.
Allen Freunden, Förderern und Sponsoren Dank dafür, dass Nordeuropa wieder für eine Woche in Lübeck, in Deutschland, zu Gast sein kann.

A Word of Welcome from the Senator for Culture
Lübeck Welcomes Northern Europe
 
Films and filmmakers from all over Northern Europe have been the focus of the Nordic Film Days for decades.
In Lübeck, we have built on this success. Indeed, it is precisely this idea that we have followed up in our bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2010, with a view to applying it to every aspect of the arts and culture. What an exciting prospect it will be to consolidate Lübeck's historic tradition as a cultural centre on the Baltic Sea in this way, by taking this past into the present and paving the way for the future: the Baltic region as a melting pot of ideas, art movements, political visions and all that fosters harmony and, potentially, stimulates controversy.
The Nordic Film Days have also taught us something else in our bid to become European Capital of Culture: culture is not something that can simply be im-posed on a city or a region. Interest and eager curiosity, like creativity and artistic production, can only thrive in a place that provides a broad and solid basis - a place where these things can be lived and experienced. The Nordic Film Days are exactly that: living and experi-encing an enthusiasm for film, for art and for all our guests from the Nordic countries in Lübeck.
I am delighted that you, our guests, have returned once more to enrich our minds and whet our curiosity, to debate with us, relate with us, and celebrate with us.
Festivals like the Nordic Film Days Lübeck are the building blocks for a real Europe.
