Fünf Jungen in einem russischen Erziehungsheim, keiner von ihnen älter als 15 Jahre: Sie haben gestohlen, vergewaltigt und getötet. Die Zeit im Heim bedeutet für sie eine Auszeit vom Elend. Sie sprechen über ihre Vergangenheit in zerstörten Familien, über Träume und eine ungewisse Zukunft.Regisseurin Maria Lappalainen kommt ihren jungen Protagonisten ganz nah, ohne dabei die Position der stillen Beobachterin zu verlassen. In einer Mischung aus Interviewszenen und der nüchternen Schilderung des Heimalltags porträtiert sie fünf Schicksale, denen die Kindheit geraubt wurde. Dabei entwickelt „Auf der Kippe“ eine Eindringlichkeit, die lange nach Ende des Films nachwirkt.
Five boys in a Russian children's home, none of them older than 15: they have stolen, raped and killed. For them, the time they spend in the home is a break from the misery of their lives. They tell of their broken families, their dreams and their uncertain future.Director Maria Lappalainen gets close to her young protagonists without actually leaving the position of silent observer. In a mixture of interview scenes and the sober portrayal of institutional life, she creates a portrait of five individuals robbed of their childhood. “On Edge” is an unsettling film that haunts the viewer long after it ends.
Regisseurin Maria Lappaleinen, Jahrgang 1969, machte 1998 ihren Abschluss am All Russian State Institute of Cinematography. Bisher drehte sie drei Filme, darunter „Iron and a Few Shots“, das auf einem Theaterstück von Dario Fo basiert.
Director Maria Lappaleinen, born in 1969, graduated in 1998 from the All Russian State Institute of Cinematography. She has made three films to date, including “Iron and a Few Shots”, based on a play by Dario Fo.
