Nils Malmros ’ neuer Film in Lübeck | The Truth behind the Truth

Neben Lars von Trier gilt er als einer der großen Autorenfilmer aus Dänemark: Nils Malmros – wegen stark autobiographischer Elemente in seinen Filmen immer wieder als „der Truffaut aus Århus “ bezeichnet. Sein neuer Film In Kenntnis der Wahrheit ist jetzt auf den Nordischen Filmtagen Lübeck zu sehen. In präzisen Schwarz-Weiß-Bildern erzählt Malmros darin die Lebensgeschichte eines renommierten aber umstrittenen Gehirnchirurgen. Dass die vorgebliche Wahrheit oft nur die Spitze eines Eisberges ist, begleitet das sich über eine Zeitspanne von 80 Jahren ziehende Drama als Leitmotiv.
Malmros, der selbst als Arzt in Århus praktiziert, ließ sich für Facing the Truth von der Vita seines eigenen Vaters inspirieren. Da er als bekennender Perfektionist in 35 Jahren nur neun Spielfilme inszenierte, wird auch dieses neue Meisterwerk mit großer Spannung erwartet.
 

Alongside Lars von Trier he is considered one of Denmark ’s leading auteur filmmakers: Nils Malmros, often called the “Truffaut of Århus ” due to the autobiographical elements in his films. His latest work, Facing the Truth, celebrates its premiere out side of Scandinavia at the Nordic Film Days Lübeck. Malmros tells the story of a f amous brain surgeon in striking, often disturbing black-and-white images. The fact that the apparent truth is often only the tip of the iceberg runs through the story as a leitmotif as it traces some 80 years in the doctor ’s controversial life.
Malmros, who himself practices as a doctor in Århus, bases the film on the life of his own father, a celebrated surgeon. A self -avowed perfectionist, Nils Malmros has produced only nine films in 35 years, so the excit ement was correspondingly high when the film was shown in a closed screening at the Norwegian Film Festival in Haugesund. There Facing the Truth was enthusiastically received as a masterpiece.
