Zur Feier eines erfolgreichen Filmjahres möchten wir alle Fans des nordischen Kinos in der Zeit vom 31. Oktober bis 3. November nach Lübeck einladen. Die 44. Nordischen Filmtage Lübeck präsentieren eine Auswahl der interessantesten und schönsten Filme des Jahres – mit den größten Highlights und den neuesten Entdeckungen. Es war ein erfolgreiches Jahr für das Kino aus dem Norden Europas: Von der Oscar-Nominierung für den (bereits bei seiner Deutschlandpremiere bei den 43. Nordischen Filmtagen Lübeck doppelt preisgekrönten) norwegischen Film „Elling“ von Petter Næss über die Auszeichnung des dänischen Films „Små ulykker“ (Kleine Missgeschicke) von Annette K. Olesen mit dem Blauen Engel als Bester europäischer Film bei der diesjährigen Berlinale bis hin zum Großen Preis der Jury in Cannes für Aki Kaurismäkis finnischen Film „Mies vailla menneisyyttä“ (Der Mann ohne Vergangenheit) und seine Hauptdarstellerin Kati Outinen, die zur Besten Schauspielerin gekürt wurde. Aber die Filme aus dem Norden haben nicht nur bei internationalen Festivals für Furore gesorgt, sondern auch das Kinopublikum in Deutschland begeistert. Haben früher gerade mal ein oder zwei Produktionen den Sprung auf den „Kontinent“ geschafft, so werden bis Ende dieses Jahres insgesamt 15 skandinavische Filme in deutschen Kinos angelaufen sein. Aber auch aus den baltischen Staaten gibt es Positives zu vermelden: Die Produktion hat sich weiter konsolidiert, und die neu entstandenen Spielfilme ernten in ihrer gelungenen Verbindung von nord- und osteuropäischer Erzähltradition Anerkennung auf Festivals: „Head käed“ (Good Hands), die estnisch-lettische Koproduktion von Peeter Simm in Berlin, „Pa celam aizejot“ (Leaving by the Way) von Viesturs Kairis aus Lettland in Karlovy Vary oder „Nuomos sutartis “ (The Lease), das Debüt des jungen litauischen Regisseurs Kristijonas Vildziunas in Venedig. Alle diese Filme werden in Lübeck zu sehen sein. Das Festival versteht sich als Treffpunkt für Produzenten und Freunde des nord- und nordosteuropäischen Kinos. Es bietet die Chance, sich einen Überblick über die Jahresproduktion zu verschaffen und neue Trends und Talente zu entdecken. Und nicht zuletzt vielfältige Gelegenheiten, miteinander zu reden und zu feiern.

we would like to invite all fans of Nordic cinema to come to Lübeck in the time from October 31st to November 3rd. The 44th Nordic Film Days Lübeck present a selection of the most interesting and finest films of the year – with highlights and latest discoveries. It was a successful year for cinema in Europe’s North: beginning with the Oscar nomination for the Norwegian film “Elling” by Petter Næss (which had already received two prizes at its German premiere during the 43rd Nordic Film Days Lübeck), then the Blue Angel as Best European Film to Annette K. Olesen’s “Minor Mishaps” at this year’s Berlinale, and finally the Grand Prix du Jury in Cannes for Aki Kaurismäki’s Finnish film “The Man Without a Past” as well as the Best Actress award to his leading lady Kati Outinen. But the films from the North not only caused a sensation at international festivals, but were also enthusiastically received by German audiences and those of many other countries. If in the past maybe one or two Scandinavian productions crossed the Baltic Sea to the “continent”, by the end of this year there will be altogether 15 Nordic films released in German cinemas. But there is also positive news coming from the Baltic countries. Film production there continues to consolidate, and the new films that have been produced with their convincing mixture of Northern and Eastern European narrative tradition have received deserved recognition at major festivals: for instance Peeter Simm’s Estonian-Latvian co-production “Good Hands” in Berlin, Viesturs Kairis’ Latvian feature “Leaving by the Way" in Karlovy Vary, or “The Lease”, the debut feature film of the young Lithuanian director Kristijonas Vildziunas, which screened in Venice. All these films will be showing in Lübeck. The festival sees itself as meeting place for producers and all those interested in European cinema from the North and Northeast. It offers the chance to survey the annual film production and discover new trends and talent as well as many opportunities to talk and celebrate with one another.
