Inhalt/ Summary

Eine ereignisreiche Stunde in einer finnischen Kleinstadt an einem Samstagmorgen: Ein Flugzeug durchbricht die Schallmauer. Während die Bungee-Anlage auf dem Marktplatz zu Mutproben herausfordert, geht Anni, eine alleinstehende junge Mutter, mit ihrem Kleinkind auf dem Arm wie in Trance in den Fluss. Santeri, der das lokale Anzeigenblatt ausfährt, trifft seine heimliche Liebe, und Esa, ein abgebrannter Musiker, sucht seinen Vater. In der Pizzeria fädelt Leena ein Date zwischen ihrem Chef und ihrer Kollegin ein, während Ilpo unvermittelt vor den Trümmern seiner Ehe steht. Im Krankenhaus sitzt Milja am Bett ihres sterbenden Mannes und erwartet die Ankunft der Tochter. Diese rettet Anni.Regisseur Jarmo Lampela zeigt in seinen finnischen „Short Cuts“ aus heiteren und tragischen Elementen Menschen, die an einem Wendepunkt ihres Lebens stehen.

An eventful moment in a small Finnish town one Saturday morning: a plane breaks the sound barrier. The marketplace offers bungee jumpers the thrill of a lifetime, and Anni, a single mother, wades into the river with her child in her arms. Santeri, delivering the local paper, meets his secret lover, and Esa, a burned-out musician, is looking for his father. In the pizzeria, Leena organises a date for her boss and a colleague, while Ilpo faces up to marital ruin. In the hospital, Milja sits by her dying husband’s bedside and waits for their daughter. She saves Anni.Director Jarmo Lampela has made a kind of Finnish version of ”Short Cuts“ that shows the happy and tragic elements of human life at the crossroads.

Regisseur Jarmo Lampela, Jahrgang 1964, studierte von 1987 bis 1992 Film an der University of Arts and Design in Helsinki. Zuvor hatte er bereits von 1986 bis 1987 ein Schauspielstudium an der Theaterakademie absolviert. Er arbeitet als Regisseur, Drehbuchautor und Produzent und erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen für seine Filme, so beim Internationalen Kurzfilm Festival in Tampere, Finnland, und dem Montecattani Film Festival in Italien. Für seinen Spielfilm „Freakin' Beautiful World“ bekam er 1997 den Baltischen Filmpreis bei den Nordischen Filmtagen Lübeck.

Director Jarmo Lampela, born in 1964, studied film at the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki from 1987 to 1992. Before that, he studied acting at the Theatre Academy. He works as director, scriptwriter and producer and has received several awards for his films at the International Short Film Festival in Tampere, Finland, the Montecattani Film Festival in Italy and elsewhere. His feature film “Freakin’ Beautiful World” took the 1997 Baltic Film Prize at the Nordic Film Days Lübeck.
