"Frischer Wind bei den Nordischen Filmtagen" meldeten die Medien in den letzten Wochen. In der Tat war eine erfrischende Brise bei den Vorbereitungen zum diesjährigen Festival zu spüren. Sie ist zunächst sichtbar in dem neuen Erscheinungsbild, das sich die traditionsreiche Veranstaltung gegeben hat und für das wir im Vorfeld bereits viel Lob bekommen haben. Die künstlerische Leitung unter dem neuen Vorsitz von Linde Fröhlich und das Organisationsteam unter der bewährten Leitung von Ada Kadelbach haben erstklassige Arbeit geleistet und ein Programm zusammengestellt, auf das wir uns alle freuen dürfen.
Ich danke allen, die uns auch in diesem Jahr wieder begleitet haben. Dabei denke ich besonders an Dr. Hauke Lange-Fuchs, der sein filmisches Fachwissen und seine cineastische Leidenschaft nun schon seit 30 Jahren in den Dienst der Nordischen Filmtage stellt. Ich denke an Liv Ullmann, die uns allen ein liebevolles Grußwort für den Katalog geschrieben hat. Und ich denke dabei an den langjährigen Freund der "Nordischen", Ulrich Gregor, der uns mit seinem wertvollen Rat als Konsultant zur Seite steht. Auch wenn ich zunächst die drei unverzichtbaren ideellen Förderer stellvertretend für alle anderen genannt habe, sind uns die materiellen Förderer nicht weniger wichtig. Ohne das enorme finanzielle Engagement unserer zahlreichen Partner - allen voran der NDR und das Land - wären die wunderbaren Empfehlungen der Beratenden Kommission und der nationalen Filminstitute von Reykjavik bis Riga nicht umsetzbar. Etwa 40 Prozent des Gesamtbudgets von fast 700.000 DM kommen aus privaten oder halböffentlichen Quellen. Das ist ein zukunftsträchtiges Beispiel für eine Private-public Partnership. Dafür sind wir unseren verlässlichen Partnern in schweren Zeiten besonders dankbar.
Besonders herzlich danke ich den Botschaftern der fünf nordischen Länder in Berlin für die Übernahme der Schirmherrschaft über das Lübecker Festival, das sie selbst als alljährliches Schaufenster für den aktuellen Nordischen Film ansehen. Und ich danke den Hamburger Generalkonsuln für ihre Treue, die sie vor allem als Förderer der Nordischen Filmtage im Freundeskreis bekunden.
Wir werden in den ersten vier Tagen des November beim gemeinsamen Kinobesuch und bei den abendlichen Empfängen viel Gelegenheit zur Kontaktpflege und zum Gedankenaustausch haben, auch mit dem uns schon so lange verbundenen Publikum. Ihnen allen wünsche ich bereichernde Stunden im Kino und darüber hinaus einige herbstliche Impressionen in unserer schönen Stadt.

"The winds of change are blowing through the Nordic Film Days," reported the media in recent weeks. And, indeed, the preparations for this year's festival brought a breath of fresh air. For one thing, there is a whole new look, which has already earned lots of praise. The artistic direction, now headed by Linde Fröhlich, and the organisational team led by Ada Kadelbach have done a first class job, putting together a programme that is worth looking forward to.
I wish to thank all those who have once again given us their support. In particular, Dr. Hauke Lange-Fuchs, whose cineastic enthusiasm and vast knowledge of film have served the Nordic Film Days for 30 years. Also, Liv Ullmann, whose loyalty to the festival is unfailing, and who has written such kind words of welcome for this year's catalogue. Last, but not least, Ulrich Gregor, a long-standing friend of the NFL who is now an official consultant to the festival.
These three invaluable patrons who have contributed their ideas and their expertise are representative of the many others whose names are too numerous to mention here. No less important are the patrons who have contributed materially. Without the enormous financial commitment of our many partners, first and foremost the NDR, the wonderful recommendations and proposals put forward by the Consultant Committee and the various National Film Institutes from Reykjavik to Riga could not be implemented. With some 40 per cent of the overall budget of almost 700,000 DM coming from private or semi-public sources, the funding can be seen as a promising example of private-public partnership. We are especially grateful to have such reliable partners in these difficult times.
At this year's festival, the 43rd Nordic Film Days, I extend the warmest of welcomes to the ambassadors of the five Nordic countries, who moved into a joint complex in Berlin last year. Together, they have accepted the patronage of the festival, which they regard as an annual window on contemporary Nordic film. I wish to thank them for their ideal and material support. I am also grateful to the Consuls General in Hamburg for their loyalty as patrons of the Nordic Film Days.
In the first four days of November, we shall have many opportunities of watching films, exchanging opinions and talking to the audience. I wish everyone enriching hours of cinema and pleasant autumn days in our lovely city.
