Inhalt/ Summary

Der 23-jährige Lasse will eine Pelztierfarm aufmachen. Das Wissen dazu erhält er von zwei Brüdern, die seit 35 Jahren Nerze und Füchse züchten. Im hohen Norden Finnlands werden diese Tiere wie am Fließband produziert, jährlich allein über zwei Millionen Fuchsfelle. Die Tiere leben in Käfigen, und bereits ein Jahr nach ihrer Geburt werden ihre Pelze vermarktet. Der Film vermittelt einen Einblick in das Leben von Tier und Mensch – und ihre Zukunft. Zum einen eine Geschichte über hart arbeitende Farmer, wie sie ihre Kinder groß ziehen, zum anderen ein moralischer und politischer Film. Denn in dieser Region werden die kritischen Stimmen der Grünen, der Menschen im Süden Finnlands und des restlichen Europas nicht gehört.

23-year-old Lasse wants to set up a farm of his own. Two brothers who have been breeding mink and fox for 35 years share their knowledge with him. In the far north of Finland these animals are reared in huge numbers, culling no fewer than two million fox furs each year. The animals live in cages and are marketed for their pelts within a year of their birth. The film gives an insight into the lives of the people and the animals – and their future. This is a moral and political film about a region where the critical voices raised by environmental activists and the population in the south of the country, let alone the rest of Europe, go unheeded.

Regisseur Markku Tuurna, Jahrgang 1962, hat an der Universität Tampere Journalistik studiert und bei Zeitungen gearbeitet. Während des Golfkrieges war er Kriegsberichterstatter. Während seines anschließenden Film- und Fernsehstudiums an der Universität in Helsinki drehte Tuurna bereits Kurz- und Dokumentarfilme. „Hundert Generationen“ ist sein erster Dokumentarfilm nach Studienabschluss.

Director Markku Tuurna, born in 1962, studied journalism at the University of Tampere, went into newspaper journalism and was a war correspondent during the Gulf War. He then read film and television studies at the University of Helsinki, during which time he began making short films and documentaries. “One Hundred Generations” is his first documentary since graduating.
